    3. Melanie--try this url (lots of information here.) http://www.henderson-lea.hc.k12tn.net/donahue/henderson/sardis.htm This is from the web page. Sardis Cemetery is located about 3/4 mile south of Sardis on the road to Saltillo. It is an old cemetery, and one of the largest in Henderson County. The cemetery is well maintained. Like many area cemeteries which have been in continuous use since before the Civil War, fieldstone have all been removed and the oldest part of the cemetery near the crest of the rise in the center is being reused. There markers from the 1960s through 1990s are surrounded by markers from the 1830s through 1860s. The total number of people buried here without markers cannot be estimated but must number over 100. This cemetery was recorded October 30, 1999.

Mary Laura Smith married William Gilliam about 1891-1892. She was born 3/21/1876 Henderson Co., TN from my information, d. 9/8/1939 in Snyder, TX. Her death cert. lists Z. T. Smith as her father, Mary Ann Barr as her mother. I believe Z.T. could possibly have been Zachariah T. Smith, but don't have any evidence of such. I have some deed records that mention him, along with some other Smiths and Smith girls with married names. I also have an obituary, which I also believe to be his. I also have 1 census record on Z.T. Smith and Martha A. Smith in Hardin Co., TN 1870. I'd love to see what information you have and if you think we may have some kind of connection. I look forward to hearing more from you. T. Jay

    1. [TNHENDER] Memorial Day
    2. Leslie Moore
    3. This is a suggestion that came through on another list - I am copying it here with the permission of the writer whose name is listed at the end of the email. As Memorial Day approaches, I was reminded again that this is the time where family members wish they were nearby to place flowers on graves, but can't because of distance, health, or whatever. When you shop for those memorial flowers and wreaths for your own loved ones, won't you join me in picking up a couple of $1 bunches of flowers to place on those lonely graves where no flowers are placed? Do it for the family members who may not be close enough or healthy enough to do it.. do it for those who have long since gone but used to care for the graves. Do it, just because you're a family historian, and care about these who have passed before us. Do it, because it just feels good! It is a special feeling know that these who would have been without, can now show that someone cared! Lanita Sconce Miller Any family tree produces some lemons, some nuts and a few bad apples.
