    2. Lillian: I have not done any intense researching on any of your families, Martins, Cunningham or Youngs of Henderson Co. but I do have some Martins and Youngs in my line; however, I have been platting out old land grants and deeds in Hardin Co. and I find that Thomas Cunningham entered land in Hardin Co. on 19 June 1831 and William C. Cunningham entered land on 30 July 1835. Also, In Hardin Co., James Young entered land on 11 Aug. 1835 and Isaiah P. Young on 22 Feb. 1839. These properties were near each other and would have been near the Hardin and Henderson Co. line. Also, you may be aware that at some point, part of Hardin Co. became part of Henderson Co. Please see my web site at the address below to see if any names are familiar. Ed ----------------------------- See home page at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~adams1895

    3. Hi Lilly, I've got kin that were in Henderson County too. A lot had moved on by 1860 though. For some reason the ones that left went to Oregon County MO. There were Phillips and Blankenship mostly. I think Stubblefield also. My Mills family came from Carroll County directly to the north. There doesn't seem to be any pre-civil war records. The courthouse was burnt in the Civil War. That's my problem. I need an 1850 or so marriage I did a quick check of what I have for Oregon County and found one Martin. Franklin Martin was living with a Stubblefield family in Randolph County AR which borders on Oregon County. 2. Lilly
    3. Hello, I am descended from a MARTIN family which originated in North Carolina, but as of 1860 census, and the 1870 census, were living at Henderson Co, TN. Probably near to Lexington, TN. The head of the family is: William Martin b. about 1825 NC. His wife is Mary Elizabeth YOUNG b. 1825 NC. Their children: 1. James Nathaniel Martin b. 1837 NC married: Sarah E. Unknown b. 1846 NC Kids: James W. Martin b. 1866 SC; John A. Martin b. 1867 TN ; George S. Martin b. 1870 TN. 1880 census in TX. 2. George Wesley Martin b. 11-1-1849 Johnson Co NC, married Martha Virginia CUNNINGHAM at Lexington, TN. Miss Cunningham was born 1852 TN, and both her parents were b. TN. Kids: William Jesse Martin b. 2-17-1872 TN; Norah Martin b. 1874 TN; Dora Martin b. 1875 TN; Joesph Elijah Martin b. 1879 TN 1880 census in TX. Please Note: The Martin family is listed at house # 675 in Henderson Co TN in the 1860 census, and the CUNNINGHAM house is near at #683. I believe that George and Martha were neighbors. 3. H.E. Martin, b. 1847 NC, this is a FEMALE, but don't have a full name for her, only initials from the census. 4. Mary Caroline Martin b. 8-22-1854 TN. She never married. 1880 census in TX. 5. R.L. Martin b. 1851 TN, this is a MALE, don't have a full name yet, only initials. 6. Basely Martin b. 1865 TN, male. 1880 census in TX. 7. Joseph Allan Martin b. 1867 TN. This is my GReat GRandfather. 1880 census in TX. 8. Margaret Martin b. 1869 TN 1880 census in TX. There may be other kids I don't know about. There may be an Edward Martin b. about 1850 NC. 1880 census in TX. William Martin must have died in TN about 1869 to 1879 time frame. As of 1880 census, this entire family group shown above, ALL went as a group to Navarro County, TEXAS and settled there permanently. The Father, William Martin b. 1825 NC, is missing from the group, when they got to Texas. I also do NOT yet know about this families participation in the Civil War, but they did live the entire Civil War Years in Henderson Co TN, and the father, and the 2 oldest sons above, would have all been the right ages to have served in the war. I have no idea as to which of the 2 sides they would have fought for. I also do not know their religion. In the 1860 census at Henderson Co TN, District 7, this Martin family , above, was also living very near to 5 families named YOUNG, and they were all born in NC. They may be related to Mary Elizabeth Young Martin, the mother of my family. If you are researching the name MARTIN, YOUNG, or CUNNINGHAM of this time frame and location please let me know. I was thinking this family might have been Cherokee Indians from North Carolina, which were removed to TN, and then further removed to TX, but I have no proof of this at all, and they are listed as White on the 1860 census. Best regards, Lillian Kathleen Martin, d/o Joe Martin b. 1925 OK, s/o Joe Martin b. 1899 TX, s/o Joe Martin b. 1867 TN, s/o William Martin b. 1825 NC.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Pearce Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AgB.2ACE/197 Message Board Post: I’m trying to confirm the name of the first wife of PETER MCBRIDE PEARCE He was born on 10 August 1840 in Mifflin Tennessee and died on 8 September 1904 in Collinsville Texas. The Family Folk Lore is that he abandoned his first wife (?Saluda J. Dickey/Dickie?) who he married in 1862 in Mifflin and came to Independence County with their 2 children, Jerry Newman Pearce and Richard Haynes Pearce. She may have been an Indian. Also, we think she is buried in the Independence County area. Shortly after he arrived in the Independence County area he married Rebecca Delilah Case on 11 April 1872. He was a Baptist Minister and may have been the Independence County Representative to the State Legislator in the 1860s. I think his son Richard died in 1907 and may be buried in the Independence County area, but I haven’t been able to find any good references for his death. I think he married Annie O’neal. His son Jerry died in 3 October 1930 and is buried in the Old Walnut Ridge Cemetery with his wife Lourainey Ann Pulliam. I requested a Death Certificate for Jerry Pearce to confirm his mother’s name, but the Department of Health said they did not have one. Richard died before the state started keeping death certificates. Any thoughts on confirming Peter’s wife’s name?? I have extensive data on the Pearce family that I will be glad to share. Surnames: Pirtle/Cook Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/AgB.2ACE/196 Message Board Post: I am told that my greatgrandfather was John Cook; that he married a Margaret, or Maggie Pirtle, and, before my grandfather, John Roland Cook, was born, he abandoned the family in Paducah, Kentucky. My relatives are not certain, but I am told that my greatgrandma Pirtle was very closely related to Ollie Pirtle. He is now dead, but his daughter, Ollie Fay, might still be alive, or relatives, or friends. This group of the Pirtles lived in Henderson County from the mid 1850's, until at least the 1930's. I've found them on the Censuses from the USGenNet site. If anyone has any information about either my greatgrandpa Cook, or my greatgrandma Pirtle, please let me know. I do not even have a photo of either of them; I am determined to once and for all track down the family, both Cook, and Pirtle, and I'll welcome any information.
