I'm not an ARNOLD researcher, but I'm interested in the ones that lived in Henderson Co in the 1840s and after. Does anyone know where they lived before they came to Henderson Co? The reason I ask, is because I've recently been alerted to the fact (going way back) that some ARNOLDs were in Randolph Co, NC, 1800 and before, then went to Clarke Co, GA, and were in Bedford Co, TN, by 1820. I'm interested because my JORDANs may have followed this same path during the same timeframe. I know there were ARNOLDs living in Dist 2, the same district where some of my JORDANs lived. Does anyone know of any JORDAN/ ARNOLD connections? Thanks! Sandra

Jimmy, regarding trying to find out if M.J. MATLOCK was son or was not a son of Henry Matlock and Charlotte Elizabeth WILKINS. MAPLE SPRINGS CEMETERY, HeCoTn Matlock, M. J., Feb. 20, 1870-Oct. 13, 1958 Matlock, Jennie, Oct. 3, 1869-June 27, 1943 Perhaps an easy way to find out, and with minimum cost, is to email the volunteers in the Tennessee Room at the Jackson/Madison Co. TN library. email address: tnroom@aeneas.net and ask the Tennessee Room if they have microfilm of "The Lexington Progress" for 13 OCT 1958 (year M.J. MATLOCK DIED) If they have the microfilm, ask for lookup of obituary of M.J. MATLOCK. It costs around $3.00, as I recall to get a copy. His obituary may state who was the father of M.J. MATLOCK. If they don't have microfilm for "The Lexington Progress", then ask for look up in the "Jackson Sun" newspaper. Sometimes obituaries for people who died in HeCoTn appear in the "Jackson Sun" newspaper. As long as you are asking, ask Tennessee Room to check funeral home records that they have. The reason I suggest you email the Jackson/Madison Co TN library is because the Everett Horn Library in Lexington, Henderson Co. TN, doesn't do lookups. The Everett Horn Library has microfilms for most years of "The Lexington Progress." If Jackson/Madison Co TN library doesn't find anything, ask if they have death index for Tennessee for 1958. Death index might give you the TN county in which M.J. MATLOCK died. With the county, you can try for a death certificate. To obtain a death certificate for M.J. MATLOCK, you need to know where he died. You could take a guess of Henderson Co. TN and then telephone the Courthouse in Lexington, TN, vital records dept, to ask if there is a death certificate for him. The Courthouse staff may or may not tell you over the telephone due to recent security laws passed on obtaining death certificates by the U.S. Congress. Even if you write the Courthouse, you may not be able to obtain a death certificate unless you can show proof that you are a relative of M.J. MATLOCK. Good luck. Linda

All of David's on-line work is available at the Records Repository page. http://www.tngenweb.org/records/ I would suggest you contact Athalia Taylor at the Decatur County library with any questions about his personal research. She may be able to help you. From the conversations I had with him, his interest was more in the webpage building than in researching. http://www.decaturcountytn.org/decatur_county_library.asp ----- Original Message ----- From: "S Lee" <ihunt4kin@hotmail.com> To: <TNHENDER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, March 10, 2005 8:07 AM Subject: RE: [TNHENDER] memorial > Thank you for sharing that, Linda. > > Does anyone know what has happened to all David's research? Thank you for sharing that, Linda. Does anyone know what has happened to all David's research? I am specifically interested in his own line. He was always so busy helping others, that I never heard much about his ancestral lines. Several years ago, I discovered he was descended from the SAVAGE line that I, too, am descended from. At the time, he seemed too busy to talk about it much, so I never had the opportunity to really share information with him. I always thought that some day I could contact him and find out more. Was any of own personal info donated to the library or anything? My ancestor is William M. Martin b. 1826 NC, married to Mary M. Young b. 1825 NC. Mary M. Young is the sister of Bassalia J. Young. Both the Martin family and the Young family left Rockingham Co NC to settle in Henderson Co TN. The 1850 census of Henderson Co TN, district 7, page 164 shows 2 YOUNG families listed. Since both of those families are also buried at the same Cemetery, that of the Caffey Cemetery in Henderson Co TN, I would assume that the 2 families are related. Because the 1850 census, which is online and Free access, is listed by Alphabetical order, and not family order, I will have to do some guesswork to split the 2 families into correct grouping. Family #1: Barzilla, or Barzella, aka Bassalia J. or aka B. J. Young. b. 1-18-1815 NC d. 1-7-1894 He is married to Druzilla H. Young b. 6-1-1817 NC d. 10-3-1887 Both Buried at Caffey Cem. Joseph M. Young b. 1846 TN d. 11-10-1865 (Caffey Cem.) Robert C. Young b. 1840 TN John Watson Young b. 11-1-1843 d. 3-31-1922, m. Judy b. 8-23-1844 , buried at Caffey Cemetery, with 2 infants. Family #2: John S. Young b. 1803 NC d. 12-25-1864 (Caffey Cem.) Margaret Young b. 1812 NC John D. Young b. 2-28-1832 TN d. 7-24-1857 (Caffey Cemetery) Mary E. Young b. 1839 TN Joseph Young b. 1840 TN Alfred P. Young b. 1844 TN James Young b.1845 TN Sarah E. Young b. 1846 TN Dillen A. Young b. 1848 TN G. A. Young b. 1849 TN (female) The following names are either kids of John S. Young, or kids of Bassalia J. Young. these names and birth dates come from the 1850 census at Henderson Co TN: Emily J. Young b. 1836 TN Malinda Young b. 1842 TN Zylpha Young b. 1834 TN William Young b. 1832 NC If someone could please help me to know which of these kids belong to John and which belong to B.J. Please note the date of 1832, I believe this must signal the move from Rockingham Co NC to Henderson Co TN. My ancestor William M. Martin died in Henderson Co TN in 1870, and then his wife and kids moved by 1878 to Navarro Co TX. They moved to Henderson Co TN about 1853. The children of William M. Martin and Mary M. Young were: Harriet, Mary Caroline, Bailey, Samson/Ramson, Joseph Allen, William B., Isabella, Druzilla, and George Wesley Martin. When William M. Martin died in 1870 B.J. Young was appointed guardian of the minor children. My ancestor is Joseph Allen Martin b. 1857 TN, married Nancy Elizabeth Doolen of Navarro Co TX, they settled at Sunset, Montague Co TX and my grandfather was their son Joseph Alfred Martin b. 1899 Sunset. TX. He worked for the Lone Star Gas Co of TX for 43 yrs. Would like to hear from any researchers of this family line. Best regards, Lilly Martin
My earliest ancestor is William M. Martin b. 1826 NC, married in 1848 to Mary M. Young in Rockingham Co NC. The 1850 census shows them in Rockingham Co NC. About 1853 they moved to Henderson Co TN and stayed there until William M. Martin died there in 1870. About 1878 the widow Mary M. Martin b. 1825 NC, and her children moved permanently to Navarro Co TX. Mary M. Young b. 1825 NC was sister of B. J. Young who married Druzilla. B.J. Young and his wife Druzilla also moved from NC to Henderson Co TN, and are buried in the CAFFEY Cemetery there. I have noticed that in Rockingham Co NC that there is a marriage record between Andrew Martin and a Margaret CAFFEY. Is the CAFFEY Cemetry in TN connected to the Caffey family of NC? If so, does this tie to my Martin family line? Another similar question: in the community of Riedsville, Rockingham Co NC there is a Bailey Martin, who married Isabell Herron 1-12-1818, and also Sarah Corum 12-24-1824. My own ancestor William M. Martin b. 1826 NC named one of his sons BAILEY Martin. What does this mean?? William also named one of his daughters Isabell Martin. If anyone is researching any of these names please let me know. Best regards, Lilly Martin, d/o Joe b. OK, s/o Joe b. TX, s/o Joe b. TN, s/o William M. Martin b. 1826 NC.
I recently purchased a photo card from eBay depicting a young woman in clothing that could date from between 1870 to 1900. Written on the photo is the name "Dora Hall". I bought the card because it was taken by C.M. White of Lexington, Tennessee and I am interested in businesses that operated in Lexington. If you are related to this Dora Hall, or know anyone who is, I would be happy to return this photo to a family member.
