Josiah was in Bedford county in 1830 and in Henderson county in 1840 according to the census. They moved with Wiley Johnson (probably the father of Josiah's wife, Nancy) and (I think) Wiley's son Benjamin Johnson. The three families were right next to each other in the 1840 Henderson census. Thomas, Josiah's son would have been 3 or 4 in 1836/37. Could be a brother or other relative of Josiah. There is also an Eli Morton, with family, in Hickory County MO at the same time as John Alexander Morton in 1850 census. He is of an age to be John's brother and there were brothers older than the younger Josiah and John in Josiah's family in the 1830 Bedford County TN census. I need to check and see if Eli is there in 1840. He is listed as b. in NC where the elder Josiah and his wife came from. Thank you for all the help. I had not found the Thomas Mortin you referenced in my searches. Hello, Barzilla J. Young, aka Barsillia, or B. J. is the brother of Mary M. Young, my ancestor. Barzilla J. Young married Isabella, and they and other relatives (quite a long list) are buried at the Caffey Cemetery (white section). William M. Martin died 1870 and his brother in law B. J. Young was appointed guardian of the minor kids, among which was Joseph Allen Martin b. 1857 TN, my ancestor who moved in 1878 to Navarro Co TX along with most of his siblings and widowed mother. If anyone has any relationship to any Martin or Young families in Henderson Co TN from 1850 census thru 1900 I would like to hear from you, I do have lots of files and may be able to help. Re: "I am trying to gather more information on Josiah Morton, b. c.1799. In the 1850 census he is found in district 7 of Henderson county." The first name "Josiah" might be spelled as Joshua, census takers were sometimes poor spellers. I don't have access to 1850 census, how many children were there and what were their names and dates of birth. You may want to investigate deeds for ca 1850's of Henderson Co. TN, which can be borrowed from Mormon FHL, Salt Lake City, UT, for around $3.75, or the Tennessee State Library and Archives in Nashville, TN, might have interlibrary loan on the same microfilm listed below. Or if you are close to Lexington, TN, the library has this microfilm. Your own local library can obtain microfilms from the Tennessee State Library and Archives for you if that microfilm is allowed to be loaned out. Here is what is important about the deed range dates of the microfilm listed below. Even though it lists certain years, I found there are some deeds earlier than 1856 on this microfilm. It pays to check a microfilm, the Mormon FHL makes mistakes in labeling. Verify that microfilm number is accurate before using below. Information from Mormon Family History Library, Salt Lake City, UT. Henderson County TN Deeds Deeds, v. P 1856-1858 Deeds, v. 1 1871-1873 Microfilm # FHL US/CAN Film 978751 I believe there was an index on this microfilm, but could not swear to it. Linda
Linda, The children located in his household or nearby in 1850 were: Josiah (listed as two households away with wife and 1 child) b.abt 1827 Wilson County (?)(John A. was born in Wilson County, 1829, he is living in Hickory County MO in 1850) Adeline b.abt 1832 likely Bedford County Thomas b. abt 1834 likely Bedford County Robert b. abt 1837 likely Bedford County Martha b. abt 1840 likely Henderson County Jane b. abt 1842 likely Henderson County All births are in Tennessee according to census. And Josiah's wife, Nancy (nee Johnson) b. abt 1801 in NC. as was Josiah in abt 1799. Her father was likely Wiley Johnson. Found next door to Josiah in 1830 Bedford County and 1840 Henderson County Censuses. (There is also a Benjamin Johnson between the two in 1840 Henderson County about the same age as Nancy. I have tried numerous combinations of names and initials in various indexes and have failed to find Mortons with these names of close to the proper age. I believe the only one I have located a possible hit on was a Robert Morton in California in the 1860 census. I will look into the deed information you supplied. An old query (1990) in "family findings" says that Thomas Mitchell lived near Juno in Henderson Co TN. Another family (Barsalia Youngs) in the 7th district are buried in the Caffee Cemetery described as east side of the Sand Ridge-Bargertown Road about two miles north of U.S. 412. That seems to be the general Juno area.
Thank you for the map links. I hope that will help in my search. At least I know the general area they lived in. I am trying to gather more information on Josiah Morton, b. c.1799. In the 1850 census he is found in district 7 of Henderson county. Some of the other householder's names on the page are Richard Williams, Thomiston (?) Williams (both in their 20s), John Williams (60s with two sons in their 20s), Richard Franklin, James Digs, and Thomas Mitchell. If anyone can tell me what part of the county this was in, I would appreciate it. Also, Josiah and all of his children are not found in the 1860 Henderson County Census. If you have information about where the other householders may have moved after 1850, it might give me a clue as to were to look for Josiah's family. The only one I know about is John Alexander Morton who moved to Hickory County MO in 1849 at the age of 20. None of the others are there. Thank you in advance for looking at this. Brec Morton.

Where is New Antioch Cemetery located in Henderson Co. TN? Thank you.
Would you please check your reference for Sally "Sarah" Jane Anderson-Hendrix, who died on 21 Aug 1929. Thank you... J
RE: "Elizabeth Barrett whom I believe died in 1900 in Henderson Tennessee" There was no obituary for Elizabeth Barrett or anyone with last name Barrett in the book "Crossing the Dark River" by Brenda Fiddler. It doesn't necessarily mean there is no obituary for her, just that there was none in this book. Obituaries of HeCoTn 1827 - 1952. If she was buried in HeCoTn, then you might check online cemetery records: http://www.tngenweb.org/records/henderson/cemeteries/index.html ++++++++++++ RE: "I am trying to find a obituary on Nancy Elizabeth Austin. She lived in Henderson County in Sardis Tennessee and her date of death was 11-25-1981." The Everett Horn Library, Lexington, TN, doesn't do lookups but that is where microfilms of the newspaper, "The Lexington Progress", are located for 1981. Check on www.raogk.com, I believe there is a volunteer for Henderson Co. TN that does lookups of some records. The Tennessee State Library, Nashville, TN, might have 1981 of "The Lexington Progress". Go to www.google.com, search for the library and you can email them to ask them if they have it. It costs between $10-$15 for search. Another choice, email Tennessee Room at Jackson/Madison County TN library, volunteers do lookups. Some obituaries/deaths of Sardis, TN and Henderson Co. TN appeared in "The Jackson Sun" newspaper. Their email address: tnroom@aeneas.net ++++++++++++++++ RE: "I am also searching for any information on a Bennett Jones whom I only have a guessed date of death as 1938 in Tiptonville, Tennessee" Tiptonville, TN, is located in Lake County, TN, visit their website LAKE COUNTY http://web5.ecsis.net/~lmoore/ Post message on www.rootsweb.com, Lake County TN, asking for lookup. Also, might check with Tiptonville newspaper "Lake County Banner" to see if they have the obituary. It will cost to get obituary from newspaper. http://www.lakecountybanner.com/ I would also check on www.raogk.org to see if there is a volunteer doing lookups for Lake Co TN. It might save you some money. Good luck.
I am trying to find a obituary on Nancy Elizabeth Austin. She lived in Henderson County in Sardis Tennessee and her date of death was 11-25-1981. I am also searching for any information on a Bennett Jones whom I only have a guessed date of death as 1938 in Tiptonville, Tennessee.
