Hello. It seems that we have a lot of names in common. I had once heard there was a court house fire that destroyed all the records in Henderson county. I have quite a bit of stuff listed for this family. Charles Pleasant Austin was my gg grandfather. Karen
Hello, Karen! Who was Charles Pleasant Austin's father? I relate to the sister of Phoebe Ellen Woodward Austin, and some other inter-marriages among families in Scotts Hill, connect me to other of the families there, as well. Pleasant is a name that appears in several Austin family lines. Re: query of Renea Burkholder, What is the Graves connection to the Benjamin or Kinchen Ivey family? Renea, you may already know the below information. I was curious about the name "Kinchen", so did some searching, using the spelling KINCHEON instead of "Kinchen". >From the Mormon Family History library website: Kincheon M. IVY b abt 1846 TN, son of Marshall IVY and Lucy Ann GRAVES >From research on George Graves Descendants by David Donahue: 5. Lucy Graves, b.c. 1812, m. Marshall Ivy. He was b.c. 1814 in NC. I research GRAVES of Decatur Co. TN, but very limited. Linda
Thanks Linda! I had not even thought of Lucy's son! Looking at my other info, I did find: Robert Murphy Ivey born 1836 in TN was the son of Benjamin Ivey born in NC according to Robert M. Ivey's death certificate (Henderson Co, TN). Others list his father as named Robert and mother Belinda. Perhaps he was Robert Benjamin. Robert M. had a brother named Kinceon according to other researchers. Sounds like this family might be related to the Randolph County, NC Ivey family!?? In 1807, George, Benjamin, and Joel Graves purchase 200 acres of land in Randolph County, NC. This land is on the waters of Toms Creek. In 1817 this land is sold. In that deed George is of Randolph County, NC and Benjamin and Joel are of Granville District, SC. These 3 were listed earlier(1803) in county court minutes of Randolph County concerning road maintenance. Also listed working under George Graves's oversight is Kinchen Ivey. Benjamin Graves is a witness to prove the will of Benjamin Ivey in 1802. Are these 3 Graves men brothers? Does anyone have further information concerning any of them? What is the Graves connection to the Benjamin or Kinchen Ivey family? Renea Burkholder http://www.netease.net/decatur http://www.netease.net/perry/

I have a family that just won't appear on the 1850 or 60 census doing every kind of search imagineable. They appear on the 1840, their children s info by others list Henderson Co. as their birthplace, but no matter how hard I try in both Decatur and Henderson (as well as search clear across the whole US) can I find this family. I know that occasionally I'll have someone who seems to have avoided the census, but two census returns is a first for me ....does anyone know if there was a part of either of these census's obliterated, or not there??? It would be the Scotts Hill area and District 13, is where they should be..........I've also checked Decatur Co....here's my family, that I wish so much would show on the 1850 and 60 census!!!! I would check all the Miscellany by Mr. Smith on this website, the indexes for Austin: http://www.tngenweb.org/records/henderson/ Lastly, I would buy an ad in "The Lexington Progess" newspaper in Lexington, TN, asking for information, with your address, telephone, and email. No, it is not unless someone has republished it very recently. The worse thing about it is that it is not indexed . It is in the library at Lexington and at McKenzie. A very quick look at the book : P. Ellen b. in Anson Co NC b. near husband. Small woman, not over 100, parents Jourdan Woodward and Eadie Jones. One of 15 children, father Rev vet. Siblings who came Hen Co included Ben Woodward who married Sally Medlin, Dabney Woodward, a gunsmith; and Basheby Woodward (Mrs. Jonathan Duck). Picture of Asa Lawrence and Phoebe Ellen Austin Woodward. Phoebe Ellen always said the Woodwards followed the Austins to Scotts Hill soon after 1825. He "clerked" for her father in the big store. They relocated in Texas after Jan 1, 1890. He was good business man and master musician. Picture of descendants of Asa and Phoebe taken at homecoming in Texas about 1930. Descendent list for Jonathan and Basheba Woodward Duck Most of the extensive genealogies in this book are of the Austin-Holmes-Scott-Medlin-Duck-Clenney. All the lists have people with Woodward as a first or middle name. There is a list of descendents of Benjamin and Syntha Woodward Clenney. I do not see a genealogy list on either of the Woodward brothers, however. PSH >Is The History Of Scotts Hill, TN avialable for purchase, or possibly in a >library or other facility?
