The 1900 census: daughter's name that was not legible is "Dena Rovena Reeves" who later marred Sid Owens and died in Memphis. I talked to her great grandson in Livermore California this evening. They are assembling bible records and a wealth of other information from the Henderson and Decatur County TN REEVES. You folks on this list are the bestest. You have really broke me loose today and I will be forevermore grateful. I have some Turnbo relatives living in Decatur County. Their names are Paul and Dewey. Their father was Elvis Turnbo. He was a brother to my grandfather Ambrose Turnbo. I have their line back to John Andrew Turnbough b.1740 Alsance-Lorraine, France d. 1846 in Forked Deer TN. I told that to say I am searching-out the living. My grandmother Martha Warren Turnbo is buried at the Yarbro Cemetery in Decatur County. Texas is full of the descendants of John Andrew Turnbo. Billy, I'm glad I was able to help a little. I'm actually related to Sullivans somehow through my Maness side. I only know this, because we have an old photo that someone identified as my great great grandfather William "Mark" Maness and his sisters's Sullivan children. If you can contact me off this list at aldridge@tds.net I can give you more names of Riley Reeves' descendants. I live in Darden and have grown up and went to church with many of these Reeves. I can give you some contact information for your reunion, if your interested. Wanda Lee, You is the one!!!! I am very new at all this genealogy stuff and still haven't learned all the sharp turns in the road. I have been doing this research since April 2006 and knew my old gg grandfather Richard E Reaves had spread some images around this area and thanks to Wanda I have established that fact. My family was having Thanksgiving Dinner at the Opryland Hotel and walking by the Tennessee Room we wanted pictures together and ask a lady walking by if she would snap a couple of pics for us. She did and the ensuing conversation revealed her maiden name to be Reeves and she was from Darden. I had been planning on investigating the Henderson and Decatur County REEVES. The lady in Opryland was Richard's ggg granddaughter. My g grandfather James Lee Reeves (son of Richard) was born in Henderson County and finally settled in Dyer County. I was born at Menglewood Dyer County TN. My dad and I were born in the same bedroom 35 years apart. I went off to the military and returned to TN in 1999 and retired from federal service in Nov 2002. My wife and I have a 13 acre place in the city limits of Erin, Houston County, TN I really appreciate the response of all the great folks on the Henderson and Decatur County Lists. Some of the surnames in my lineage are: REEVES, REAVES, REVES, RIVES, TURNBOUGH, TURNBOW, TURNBO, WARREN, PITTS, BIXEY, HENRY, PRADER, RALIEGH, YARBRO, PRITCHETT, ESSARY, and on and on ... then the Eastern Cherokee. Anyone needing any information on any of these names or the Cherokee's, please let me know. I'm new at this but I might have something you can use to enhance your research. Again, thank you Wanda for your assistance. re query: Do you know if one of the Duck grandsons are helping implement this? I thought I remember a teacher with last name Duck that taught at this school. Further from "Lexington Progress" from original article in "News Leader", Parsons: Restoration project got its start when JERRY TAYLOR, Veteran Services Officer for DeCoTn visited the DOE CREEK CEMETERY. Other names mentioned in the article were: -ELMER DUCK, who taught at DOE CREEK and was buried in DOE CREEK CEM. -MICHAEL THOMAS GAVIN, preservation specialist at Center for Historic Preservation at Middle Tennessee State University and a staff member of the National Heritage Areas, National Park Service of U.S. Dept of the Interior -WAYNE STANFILL of Scotts Hill That's it.
I may be mistaken, but I believe the History of Scotts Hill, TN, was removed from online website of www.tnyesterday.com, due to copyright issues. You might be able to obtain it on loan through interlibrary loan from the Tennessee State Library and Archives in Nashville, TN. I heard that the book might be reissued by the publisher.
