Stephen is listed as being born in Hawkins County, his father (who we believe was named Thomas) was from Grainger County. According to Alabama documents and census records, Stephen McBroom moved to what would become Huntsvile, AL in 1804 and, along with his grandfather (John Criner of Hawkins Co., TN) began the first settlement in what would become Madison County. Documents indicate he has brothers named Thomas and William, and all were born in Grainger County in the late 1700s. It is pssible their fatehr was also named Thomas. There were no other brothers or sisters. Stephen married Hannah Chamberlain, Thomas's marital state is unknown, and William never got married. Stephen is shown to have lived 03/26/1784 - 01/06/1854.
