There is a great deal of information from the census records and Chancery Court records to suggest that all of the Hawkins and Hancock County Burtons were the children of Samuel and Rebecca Trent. All of these Trents changed their names to Burton around 1850. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. subject: Re: [TNHAWKIN] Mitchell's-Burtons Hawkins County Hi: Tony My Mary Jane Burton I believe to be the daughter of William Burton and Malissa Carpenter who were married in Clairborne Tenn. in 1843 -1844. I further believe the William Parents were Frances & Marion Unknown. I have just let my Ancestry subscrip. lapse. If the Burtons changed their names from Trent how would that effect the marriage records? I had traced forward for Mary Jane Burton with my William Mitchell, thru her siblings and how they lived near each other. I also found that William was not living with Malissa, age 39, and her children in 1870, possibly deceased. I had also noted that the recorder of the census records sometimes spelled "Burton" as "Barton". I am not sure of which way to proceed backward using the "Trent" information? Is there additional sites to search other then "Ancestry" at this time. I know that my family lived around Rogersville during the early 1900's and that Mary is buried at the Magnolia Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery, Hawkins County, per Haw. Cou. Cem. Book, Vol. 3, Pg 59. Would the information you spoke of on the "Bunch Families" have information to assist me further? Is there a way to check the "Chancery Records" on line and to gain helpful data as mentioned in the response of drdjones? I just got my DNA results back today, but at present there is no connection to any "Mitchells" DNA's on file with Ancestry records. They did show a close relationship to a Hancock whose paternal haplogroup project started in 2000 for the "Well's" family and its variants. I await a reply to investigate that 9 gen. connection. Thanks for your reply and that of drdjones. Without your willingness to pass on information that you guys have found, I for one would be lost in my research. Thanks again and I will keep reading and looking Roland Mitchell mom238@msn.com<mailto:mom238@msn.com> ----- Original Message ----- From: Tony Johnson<mailto:tonyempireore@msn.com> To: tnhawkin@rootsweb.com<mailto:tnhawkin@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, July 20, 2009 2:18 AM Subject: Re: [TNHAWKIN] Mitchell's-Burtons Hawkins County Of Note on the Burton surname.
