Vernon: Agree 100%. We need to take it to the next level and form an SAR Chapter in Hawkins County. This county has soooo much history. Doesn't matter where you live, if you had ancestor connected with Hawkins County, TN, yiou have the once in a life time opportunity to be a charter member in a chapter where your ancestor was part of its history. Try to be in the 1st group, there is less competition there. -----Original Message----- From: Vernon Drewa Sent: Sunday, July 12, 2009 2:25 PM To: tnhawkin@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [TNHAWKIN] regarding subject matter for the list Tony - followup re a personal note I sent you two weeks back. I'm sure that you can tell by the many well wisher's and supporter's that all appreciate what you and other's have done. Some must not realize there are "shut-ins", illnesses, age, travel distance, etc that prevent them from visiting Hw County and surrounding area's. Along with you, Shella, Mr. Goins and other's have provided more help than most realize. I've been at this for 60 year's and know that the more information disseminated, the more other's glean. Tony, I'm sure you recall the day's when the Hawkins County Court Records were in complete disarray [I obtained originals of many of my relations in the mid 60's, but it took folks like you and many other's to get this corrected.] I applaud you and the other's doing what you do for aiding other's and preserving a bit of our history. I join Dan Moore and other's who thank you, for what you've doing and have done. Hang in there and keep up the good work. Best wishes, Vernon Drewa, Cdr. I get 'Distant Crossroads' and enjoy it. Though some of the old court filings get a little tedious and long, it is overall enjoyable and worth the money. I thank the nice people who put it together. It is not an eay task. I am fortunate in that one of my cousins spent years doing research on our family and it is all bound in a fine looseleaf binder for ready reference. We have a town named after our ancestors in Hawkins County. However, I still find tiny items here and there relating to ancestors and related families and I enjoy locating them. I have also 'met' some great correspondents thru this site which I continue to exchange with on a variety of subjects. Keep up the good work folks. On another list I belong to, it came down to a very small article that helped the brick walls in my family search and one never knows when a name may be mentioned that will drive a wedge into that chink. I also enjoy reading when someone did find a great discovery about their ancestor, it gives me some hope that maybe someday I may be able to gather more information Pine, Morris is my main research for Hawkins County. I found that my great-grandmother's brother John Pine married Nancy Shanks and Shanks are related to the Lawson's of Hawkins County and many other names, if I hadn't read the emails, I wouldn't have seen some of the relations. My great-grandmother Mary Pine married my great-grandfather George W. Morris who I found was living with his sister in the 1860 census and were married in December 1860. I also am finding what great history Hawkins County has and the people who settled this part of Tennessee and the different counties one needs to look at as well when searching Hawkins County. Without information provided who would have known so much about this county, its ties with the revolutionary war, the civil war, etc.. This is also one of the most active lists I belong to besides Massachusetts, others I have to see if I am still subscribed so please continue everyone to provide information and names. Right now I am housebound for a few weeks after a heart attack and this is my refuge.
