    1. [TNHAWKIN] DAR & SAR & Hawkins Co. Patriots

    3. I have proven a number of DAR Patriots that are ancestors of people who came to Hawkins Co. They are not buried in Hawkins Co, but one is probably buried in Hancock Co. Even if the people came to Hawkins Co. later than the Patriots are from VA or NC they can still count. I have scanned my approved papers for these patriots: *Zachariah Blankenbeckler, VA* (ancestor of both the Becklers and Blankens of Hawkins Co.), *Henry Wax, PA, Valentine Boyer, PA, Casper Winck, PA, Samuel Amyx, VA*, (ancestors of all the descendants of Henry Price of Hawkins Co.), *Joseph Cole, VA, Jenkin Williams, Israel Cole, NY, John Marks, VA* (ancestors of the Becklers of Hawkins and Hancock and some of the Coles), and *Daniel Heck, MD, Batt Crowder, VA* (ancestors of many of the Hecks of Hawkins Co., TN), *Richard Green, NC *(ancestor of the Greenes of Hancock, Hawkins, Hamblen, Grainger) *John Cantwell, SC* (ancestors of most of the Cantwells and many Greenes, Seals, Trents of Hancock Co.), *Reuben Weathers, NC, *(ancestor of the James P. Drinnon family of Hancock County). I am willing to send by email copies of my papers to anyone that will send me their exact line to the patriot desired. Having these papers would mean that you would only have to prove your line up to the point it joins with mine. Many people have been able to hook on my papers already to join DAR, and there is probably no reason why it wouldn't help them join SAR. Hallie Price Garner, descendant of all the men named above.

    3. Also another good clue that is over looked is where and who gave information about a patriots service, especially those they served with. Make sure you note who they served under as it was more then likely a Militia from their home area. Note the names and what research has been done on the people giving statements. The Captain the Patriot served under in a Militia is usually found on the same River way as the patriot. Might not be the same County as Creeks, Mountain Tops and Rivers were used as Boundaries for County Lines. The basic means of transportation was by River and most Roads where laid out following a River or Creek path. Boy DID I ever look this one above just recently LOL on the Shropshire Families, some of which came to Hawkins Co. TN. I overlooked a Cousin's service record (William Shropshire) of Joel Shropshire recorder for Hawkins Co Tn until 1803. His Captains William Shropshire served under is what I overlooked. When I started checking this Capt. I was able to place a few more of my direct relatives together serving with this same Capt. Joel Shropshire married Mary Polly Hudson daughter of Hudson Johnson and wife Agness. Hudson Johnson lived on Big Creek his deeds for this lands were in Washington Co. NC when he came there in 1782 with Rev. Thomas Murrell. I still can not figure out the County line changes for Surry Co NC and who was claiming certain creeks. Or was there a Conflict between Counties claiming the same areas as this often happened.
