My Mary Jane Burton I believe to be the daughter of William Burton and Malissa Carpenter who were married in Clairborne Tenn. in 1843 -1844. I further believe that William's Parents were Frances & Marion Unknown. I have just let my Ancestry subscrip. lapse. If the Burtons changed their names from Trent how would that effect the marriage records? I had traced forward for Mary Jane Burton with my William Mitchell, thru her siblings and how they lived near each other. I also found that William was not living with Malissa, age 39, and her children in 1870, possibly deceased. I had also noted that the recorder of the census records sometimes spelled "Burton" as "Barton". I am not sure of which way to proceed backward using the "Trent" information? drdjones is there additional sites to search other then "Ancestry" at this time. I know that my family lived around Rogersville during the early 1900's and that Mary is buried at the Magnolia Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery, Hawkins County, per Haw. Cou. Cem. Book, Vol. 3, Pg 59. Would the information you Tony spoke of on the "Bunch Families" have information to assist me further? Is there a way to check the "Chancery Records" on line and to gain helpful data as mentioned in the response of drdjones? I just got my DNA results back today, but at present there is no connection to any "Mitchells" DNA's on file with Ancestry records. They did show a close relationship to a Hancock whose paternal haplogroup project started in 2000 for the "Well's" family and its variants. I await a his reply to investigate that 9 gen. connection. Thanks for your reply and that of drdjones. Without your willingness to pass on information that you guys have found, I for one would be lost in my research without such help. Thanks again and I will keep reading and looking Roland Mitchell mom238@msn.com Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Good Question As there as some that did as ere I think some Trents and Burtons who match the William Hatcher DNA. There is a Burton surnam on rootsweb. and there are two Very expereinced Burton Researchers on this chat of Rootsweb ( just like Hawkins Co. Tn) I would say older records would indicate the name used prior to them changing it. The most educated man in the County was the Records and he would spell things out as it sounded to him, and hopefully his handwriting was legible as it might also be what the transcriber saw as a A was maybe a U Send me an e-mail off site and I have many files on these Allied families of William Hatcher of Swift Creek Charles City and Henrico Co. Va. where he first settled. The Burtons, Hatcher, Farmers, Elams, Bunch have intermarried since they set foot in the Colonies. Several of their Off spring are in Hawkins Co. Tn. " To know your neighbor is to know your Kinsman" Investigate the Creek and Mountain your family lived on as they settled by family, intermarried again with them, went of to war with them. This also give you a time line of where they filed DEEDS and other legal documents in which COunty during what time period. County lines changed at a High rate. There is a Search engine where you can place your DNA Numbers and check for other SURNAMES that match your Halpogroup and DNA numbers, suggest you use it to see if a familiar surname comes up as a match Tony This is where the familes of Bunch, Wards, Elams, Hatcher, Burton, Farmers all started marryin each other. 1636 June 1: William Hatcher: Gen. note Elizabeth Ward, Widow.
