From the Western Pilot a newspaper published in Rogersville July 12 1815. When Hawkins Court House later became the Town of Rogersville. According to th newspaper report Major Samuel Wilson of Hickory Cove commander of the local militia, had his troops in full dress, parade through town to the town square where they performed maneuvers of close order drill before "raising the Standard of Liberty" on a flag pole erected on the square. Strong drink flowed freely. Twenty toast were offered, accompanied by the raising of the cup and musket salutes, and thirteen speeches were made. page 149 of Old Rogersville by Henry Price. Samuel Wilson has a son Samuel Wilson born in 1775 in what is now Hawkins Co.. He married Mary Elizabeth Ingram b 1779 in Hawkins Co. Tn. Samuel was clerk of the Hickory Cove Baptist Church from it founding until he moved to Farmington, AR. where he died 28 May 1853. Children of Samuel Wilson who is a son of Major Samuel Wilson. 1. This Samuel sold home in Hawkins Co. to Absalom Looney, moved to AR . in 1835. Settled 3 miles west of Framington, owned 1190 acres.
