    1. William Ingraham

    3. I just ran across this article from the 1998 Ingram Inklings booklet. From the Spring issue of Ingram Inklings a person named Bob Ford printed a chart on William Ingraham. In this chart he stated that this William died 1787 after 25 MAY 1785. NOTE: We know that William the Orphan lived long enough to claim his Rev. War pension in 1834 so perhaps the death date is for William Ingram of Caney Creek, (TN.) Bob also stated that he married Eleanor (Nelly) a widow living in 1810 in Carter's Valley, Hawkins Co., TN. Children were: Mary Elizabeth Ingraham b: 1777? In England? d: abt. 1858 in Washington Co., Ark. Married abt. 1795 to Samuel Wilson, II who was born abt. 1771. Thomas Ingraham - d: Dec. 1843 Married: Martha Tyree on Oct. 1810. William Ingraham Eleanor (Nelly) Ingraham b: 20 JUL 1783; d: 5 SEP 1842 in Madison Co., Al. Married: Joseph Criner of Ryland, Madison Co., Al. Margaret (Peggy) Ingraham - d: 1816 Married James Long. In 1774 there was a William Ingram in Capt. William Herbert's militia Company who apparently fought in Lord Dunmore's War at Point Pleasant on the Ohio. List of men is as follows: Neial Roberts, William Roberts, James Wallen, Joseph Wallen, Thomas Wallen, James Wallin, John Cox, George Sizemore,Micajer Bunch, Doswell Rogers, Nathaniel Wilshire, Clement Lee, George Keith, David Cox, Elisha Collins, Lewis Collins, John Collins, John Collins, Jr. John Cox, David Cox, Daniel Blevins, James Blevins, William Blevins and William Riddle. William the Orphan was living in Montgomery County, VA. in the Elk Creek area in 1779. Line I am searching: Andrew Ingram joined the Rev. war in Sept. of 1779 and was in the Elk Creek Militia of Montgomery County, VA. Both men served under a Capt. Love, but not at the same time. Sounds like these boys lived close to each other. This William the Orphan married Harriet (Happy)Rogers/Roberts Riddle in 1784. (the widow of his friend William Riddle). This William Riddle was taken before the Montgomery County Court several times as a Loyalist starting in 1779. Eventually he was hanged. William the Orphan was also accused of Loyalist leanings so they moved to Hawkins County, Tennessee around Kyles Ford from Virginia. Happy died the next year (in childbirth?). Her brother and a relative of her first husband raised her children. William the Orphan would have been about 26 when he married Happy. He could have been married previously. Did he have a child with Happy? It has been reported to me that a Thomas Riddle purchased land on Caney Creek(before the 1780's??) as well as the William Ingram (1st Ingram in Hawkins Co., TN) b: 1733. William the Orphan appears to have been good friends with William Riddle. William the Orphan married William Riddle's widow. I would guess that Thomas and William Riddle were either brothers or cousins. We have record of two William Ingram's in early Hawkins Co., Tennessee. The first William Ingram purchased many acres of land. Most of his purchases were in White County. His 200 acres in Sullivan County on 5 DEC 1794 adjoined a Mary Ingram who had 388 acres. It appears this William purchased land but it was surveyed/recorded at a later date. A William Ingram owned many tacts of land in Carter's Valley in Tennessee. Eleanor Ingram was listed as widow in the 1800 Pres. church records. The 2nd William Ingram came at a later date and it is ASSUMED this is the man we call "William the Orphan". It is interesting to note here that William Ingraham, who claims he was born in Granville, NC. in 1758 the same year and place as our William's son Andrew was born. He stated he was an orphan at an early age and "raised without family". This William the Orphan joined the Rev. War in 1776. (Pension # S21341) Does this mean Andrew and this William the Orphan were brothers? Looking forward to speculations!! Dianne __________________________________ Celebrate Yahoo!'s 10th Birthday!
