    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Manis, Lawson, Christian, Arnold Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/XeB.2ACE/3232.1.3.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Hi David, Bobbi and any others who want to help us, I talked to a daughter of Bertha Mannies this evening. Bertha is one of Clinton and Tennessee's daughters. Bertha's daughter got the following information from her grandmother Tennessee. Clinton Mannies is the son of Hiram Manis (born 1851) and Eliza Manis of Hawkins, TN. Besides Clinton, she has children listed as Andrew, Jim and Amanda. Marriage on TN marriage list of Hiram Manis to Eliza Manis 28 Jan 1869 in Hawkins, TN. I found a 1870 Dist 3, Hawkins, TN census Manis, Hiram age 19, born TN, farmer , Eliza age 26?, born TN , Andrew age 3 months, born May in TN On the 1880 83rd Division, 3rd District, Hawkins, TN Mainis, Hiram age 30, born TN, farm laborer , Jane age 25, born TN , Lillie age 6, born TN , General age 4, born TN , Joseph age 2, born TN , Samie or Jamie age 1 month, born May in TN I am wondering if the son General, age 4 could be our Clinton. We have not been able to find him under the name Clinton or anything close to that name. I did a quick look to see if I found any other records under the name General Manis and didn't find anything. Bobbi, you will be especially interested in this next part. Bertha's daughter told me the first time I talked to her that she knew there was a tie in with the Lawson family but couldn't remember how and had to find her notebook she wrote everything down in. Tonight she told me that this is what her grandmother Tennessee told her. Hiram Manis married Eliza Manis, which I have already mentioned. Eliza Manis had a sister named Martha who was married to Darr Lawson. So according to this information Martha Jane Manis and Eliza Manis were sisters. So your Martha would be my Oscar's grandmothers sister (If I have that right.) If you look on the census records of Nelson Manis (1850 and 1860) there is a daughter Eliza listed as 2 years older than Martha. Bertha's daughter seemed pretty sure about this information and she also knew that Tennessee was the daughter of Jim Horton (stepfather) and Mary Christian ( her mothers married name). I did some looking on this line and Eldridge H. Christian married Mary E. Arnold on 9 May 1870 in Hawkins, TN. On the 1880 Dist 78, Hawkins, TN census Christian, Eldridge age 29, born TN, both parents TN,farmer , Mary E. age 30, born TN, both parents TN , William R. age 8, born TN , Nancy A. age 6, born TN , Sarah A. age 3, born TN (this is Tennessee) Upon looking further it looks like Eldridge Christian is the son of Stephen H. and Sarah (Sallie) L. Christian. Mary E. Arnold may be the daughter of William and Nancy Arnold. Let me know what you all think. Do any of you out there on the Manis lines have any more information on Hiram Manis or his wife Eliza Manis? Janet
