With the help of DAR and SAR Records, lots of these questions might be answered. First of all, those who have looked at James Trent haven't been able to find an Osborne connection The pension file of Alexander Trent offers conflicting information. Jane Trent was never able to get a windows pension apparently because of some doubt about her marriage. According to an affidavit, Jane and Charity Trent were married in the same ceremony either before Jan 1792, in Jan 1792 or in Jan 1794 in Grayson County, VA. James Trent's birthday is usually given as 1792. Grayson County was formed in 1793 from Wythe County. So, it does raise some questions about the actual marriage date, which may serve to explain Samuel "Burton" Trent and James "Burton" Trent who were both apparently born before 1794. Jane's maiden name was given as Burton but Charity's last name was not given. If you have looked at a lot of pension files, you know that most individual who write affidavits are related in some way to the! party seeking the pension. Enoch Osborne, Samuel Trent and Joseph Trent wrote affidavits for Alexander Trent, which could suggest an Osborne connection to the Trents.
