----- Original Message ----- From: Sam D. Lawson To: TNHAWKIN-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Saturday, May 14, 2005 8:50 PM Subject: Curren LAWSON Notes I give credit to Adele LAWSON for the following information. These notes were sent to the late Hawkins County Historian, Charles W. LAWSON, on 30 March, 1973. I'm sure she wouldn't mind if I shared tis with the list. Dear Sir, Some years ago, 3 to be exact, I wrote you and you so kindly, graciously, and generously sent me much information on my husband's relatives for which I was grateful and I meant to send you what little I knew but got sidetracked when I heard my husband was a COBB, not a LAWSON but I'll still tell you what I know! Curren LAWSON - War Service: Company L, 8th Tennessee Cavalry (Union) Enrolled 17 September, 1863 - Mustered out 11 September, 1865, with company at Knoxville, Tennessee. Commanded by Captain Brown From 17 September, 1863, to 30 April, 1864, Curren LAWSON held the rank of Private and Corporal In applying for pension, Hawkins County, Tennessee, 16 September, 1889, He said he was 50 years old, that he was 5' 5" tall, fair complexion, light hair, and blue eyes. His home was in the 19th Civil District of Hawkins County, Tennessee. Curren LAWSON married Malinda GILBERT on 7 April, 1884, at W.E. BYRD'S Mill. They were married by Minister P.A. BYRD. Her father and mother believed to be John and Adaline GILBERT. The widow (Malinda GILBERT) had been previously married and divorced at Sneedville, Hancock County, Tennessee. The soldier (Curren LAWSON) previous wife died in the fall or winter of 1883. Curren LAWSON died at Lee Valley, Hawkins County, Tennessee, 9 March, 1911. Malinda (GILBERT) LAWSON died at Lee Valley RR# 1, Hawkins County, Tennessee, 18 April, 1917, and was buried at Lee Valley, Hawkins County, Tennessee. Malinda was married (believed to be to "Doc" COBB, not substantiated). A visitor to the Jesse LAWSON family was Arthur COBB, relation not sure. Mrs. Jesse LAWSON believes Jesse and oldest sister, Lida, were born before Malinda married Curren LAWSON but not sure. He was not the son of William TRENT, born in Virginia in 1770, nor Jesse TRENT, born in Virginia in 1775, but believed the decendant of Reverand Alexander TRENT, but I have not been able to prove that Alexander came to Tennessee in 1795, born in Chesterfield, Virginia, 1759...married Jane BURTON in 1792. TRENT, above, says he took up with a PRATT...It was a later Zach who really married Susan PRATT.
Sam, Thank you so much for posting that info on the Lawson's. Adele was my first cousin on the Long side. she passed away several years ago and I miss her. I was just going over my notes from her on the Collins line today, and had her on my mind when I read your post. She would not mind sharing her info. We did genealogy together for many years, and I would give anything to be able to 'pick' her brain again. Hubert Lawson is still living but moved to San Diego with their daughter. Adele was a very diligent researcher and got lots of her info from older family members in the 1930's and 1940's. Margaret Mabrey margiesan@charter.net ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sam D.
