I was hoping that you might be able to provide some knowledge and perhaps, if one exists, an image of him. What I know of him is this: He was born the son of William Manis (no other info known on his early family) in Bedford, VA, in Feb 1762. In 1778, he joined the fight against the British in the American Revolution. During his military service he met and married Susan Patsy Fields in Moore Co., North Carolina. She was born sometime in 1763. By 1780, they had their first child, Jacob. Sometime after the surrender of the British, they moved to Hawkins County, TN. He became a farmer and a minister (probably Baptist). I wish I knew more about his church. Stories remember him as a very generous man and he looked after others like family. He knew nothing of greed. He had 8 children that I am aware of: Jacob, William, George, James, Jesse, Elizabeth, John, and Tempa. James would be my 3rd Great Grandfa! ther, though I desperately wish that I knew more about him also. He died in 1852 after a long life and was buried on his former residence 7 miles north of Rogersville, TN on the north side of Clinth Mountain. In 1853 his wife joined him. I don’t know if their grave markers are still known and legible but if they are, I would like to get photos of them. James Manis was reportedly born in 1786 in Hawkins Co., Tennessee. He married a woman named Nancy (last name unknown). They had at least two children, Isaac (my 2nd Great Grandfather) and Joseph. I’m sure they probably had more, but lack that information as well. Most sincerely, Jeff Cheatham and family Vitruvianz@aol.com 330 453-5563 2419 Bollinger Ave NE Canton, OH 44705
