If there is a book with birth dates, then someone has made it up from other records. The first census to give birth month and year was the 1900 census, and those dates are often appear to be wrong--e.g., they don't always match up with earlier census records. There are a variety of reasons for that. Sometimes birth dates can be found in pension files or other government documents.
