K. Stapleton vs Rhea prior to 1830 census. I do not have easy access to land records prior to 1830 but I do know that Isaac and Andrew Stapleton did get land grant in 1832. Family tradition in Andrew's family is a story of two brothers coming to Hawkins Co., down the river (most likely from Russell Co. Va) There are records of a Nancy Stapleton in tax records of Russell Co. I have found no land record for James Stapleton. William Stapleton and William Stepleton were in early tax records of Hawkins Co., in different companies. William Stepleton was a witness regarding land in Puncheon Camp. William Stapleton was witness regarding land involving Sizemore. In 1830, Nancy Stapleton 50-59 with daughter 15-19, Andrew Stapleton 20-29 with wife (Sarah Sizemore) and children , and James Stapleton20-29 with wife (Susan Singleton) and four sons (William, Nelson, twin! s John and Robert)are on the same page very near each other. William 40-49 with wife (?) and daughter (?), Isaac 30-39 with another male 20-29 (maybe Thomas), wife (Nancy Sizemore) and children and Edward 20-29 are on a different page near the Sizemore families. Was William Stapleton divorced from Elizabeth Sizemore Stapleton or did he die? If he died, then the William on the 1830 census is not the same William. When did she marry Larkin Willis? The land which was transfered to Sarah Stapleton by Elizabeth Sizemore Stapleton Willis and James Willis was when? When did she marry James Willis? I know that James Willis was married prior to his marriage to Sarah. W. W. Willis was a son from this marriage. James Stapleton was apparently mentioned in a land record involving James Willis, but I have not seen this. W. W. Willis gave testimony when James Stapleton's sons filed for pensions. Also, Nelson Stapleton did not live too far from him. Also, I am wondering if ! there might not be some confusion about the Sarah Stapletons. Sarah, daughter of Elizabeth and William and listed as 2nd wife of James Willis and Sarah who married Albert Templeton in 1840 whose surity was James Willis. It seems somewhat improper for James Willis to have married his step sister. I'm sure stranger things have happened. Let me know if you have any more information about James Stapleton please.
