Surnames: Roe, Smith, Kite Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/XeB.2ACE/3244 Message Board Post: My grandfather Robert Stuart Roe was born in Rogersville, Hawkins County, TN. May 8 1888. I have tried the Roe list to no avail for any info on this family. I have been given some info but have no proof. I was given some information about my great grandfather, Jackson Marvin Roe, who was born in Washington County, Virginia on April 19 1858. He married Nancy Ellen Dickerson on November 24 1881 in Hawkins county, TN. They had 8 children my grandfather being the first. They supposedly left TN. and moved to Indian Territory via the Trail of Tears sometime around 1893-1895. Sometime during 1895 the entire family was stricken with Typhoid Fever and Nancy Ellen died. She is supposedly buried in Inola, OK. After that, Jackson stayed in OK. with his children until 1896 then moved back to Stony Point, Hawkins County, TN. He kept their family together until 1898 at which time he remarried and his second wife did not want the children. So as the story goes, all of the children were give! n away except my great aunt Phoebe. They kept her to be the new wife's slave. My great uncle Charles Cox Roe was given to Mr. Bud Lane. It is unknown what happened to the other children including my grandfather but he was also someone's slave I am told until he ran away, married my grandmother and moved to Carroll County, IN. If you could find anything about this Roe family in your books or if anyone out there might have any info on this family, I would appreciate any information that they might be able to provide. I am also willing to give any information on this family that I have.
