It is always interesting to me where and why popular names came about. We often see president's names but others are not so obvious. I wonder where Ambrose came from originally?
A lot of names you see a lot of may be from generals and such who were famous at the time but we really don't remember all that well now (Francis Marion comes to mind as a prime example). Ambrose is among other things a saint, and also a surname, so there are several possible paths for it to get to being a first name. http://magnificat.ca/cal/engl/12-07.htm Episcopalians are just as prone as Catholics to insist on saints' names for children, so an Anglican ancestor can be the start of a trend as well. --pig On 2/27/05 12:21, "ViniL@aol.com" <ViniL@aol.com> wrote: > It is always interesting to me where and why popular names came about.
