Some questions have beeen raised recently about the WILLIS family and maybe this will help someone: The bible record of Larkin Willis, Sr. (1777-1859) of Hawkins County, Tennessee published by Holbrook And Fessenden, Battleborough, Vermont, 1823. Last known to be in the possession of Miss Mary Brown of Knoxville, Tennessee. Transcribed from photostats by Prentiss Price in August, 1953. The brackets enclose notations written by a daughter of Mary Ann (Willis) Brown, the daughter of James Willis (1800-1858). She was the wife of Iredell Commodore BROWN. This Eliz. Was a widow. Her name was STAPLETON. She had one child by STAPLETON and That was Sallie STAPLETON who later become mother of Mary (WILLIS) BROWN. Bob, I am sorry but I have a correction to the information I submitted on the old Larkin WILLIS bible. I stated that Mary Ann WILLIS (who made notations with brackets in the bible about "Daddy Jim") had married to an "Iredell Commodore BROWN"...I believe that this is instead "IREDELL CAMPBELL BROWN". I apologize for this mistake. I checked with Annette Seals and she believes that it was Campbell and not Commodore.
