It seems that many of this family used names interchangeably - he was James in 1850 and J. C. in 1860. Thanks, that is one more name to add. I remember reading that there is an Irish tradition (?) that the given name was used for all legal matters and the middle name was used by family and friends. Also in many of the early families, four names were used as was Brittish tradition. Add nicknames to that and well no wonder genealogy can be confusing.
