Nancy was formerly Nancy Russell, Meredith Lawson's ward or stepdaughter. Meredith Lawson was prosecuted for incest for his relationship with her, but he was acquitted because he was not actually her father. Sella/Sealy Lawson was another of the Russell girls living with Meredith Lawson in 1850.
