I am still looking for a female named INdianna ? born abt 1812-14 TN md. abt 1831-2 Lesley (Leslie, Lesly) MYERS/MOYERS. They lived on Gap Creek, Bulls Gap on the Hawkins/Greene Co. line. I have not been successful finding a marraige for them, nor finding anything to help with her name. I thought for sure his pension would name her, then I thought for sure his son's would. Nothing on her last name has turned up in the usual sources. Indianna had 12 children with Lesley before her untimely death. She died in bef. 1860. In fact, her spouse remarried by 1857, just months after her death. There were small children in the hh to take care of. Lesley himself died after 1870 (From memory 1871) in Meigs co. TN. I have tried to find a guardianship record for the youngest children (from his 2nd wife Mary Gregory) to no avail. There was one child from Lesley's marraige to Indianna who may have been included on such a record (If it exists). The MYERS moved to Meigs Co./Rhea Co. by 1830. I have a gut feeling they inherited some land from the estate of David ROSS who left inheritance to Jacob MOYERS the spouse of his deceased daughter Eliza and her heirs. No mention of those "Heirs". I know that a John MOYERS had land in Roane Co. records shortly after David ROSS left the land (possible an inheritance) and then Christopher MOYERS b 1790 Va md. Lydia WEST and Lesley moved there from Greene/Hawkins Co. I can not find Christ. and Lydia after 1850 nor can I find a "resting place" or death date. Christ. could have left a revealing will but I can't find it. I can not find Indianna's burial or death either. Lesley is buried at French Cem., which was associated with a Methodist Church nearby at one time. Since he wit. a land deed from a DOUGHTERY to the Church I assume he was a member. I'm grasping at straws here, but the first son of Lesley and Indianna was named William R. "R" is a name passed down among the family, Riley used in the next generation. Whether it was Wm's middle name or not I can not find out. His pension, military, ect. does not list what R stood for. There are "Riggs" and "Reynolds" living nearby the family earlier and later. Berry REYNOLDS was a wit. for the widow Mary's pension application. He stated he knew Lesley all his life. BELL is another straw I grasped and could not prove out. Bell is a middle name among the females of the family. Frances BELL md. Jacob L. MYRES in WA CO. TN records about the right time period to be Lesley. However FRANCES is too much of a reach to be Indianna, but I'm not ruling it out yet either. I can not LOCATE THE COUPLE anywhere after that marriage in the 1830's. I would love to find them and rule them out if it's not a lead. One researcher assumed this was her Jacob L. who lived over the county line in VA, but she said she could not trace him either. Her family moved out of state, from memory to Indianna or Ohio or midwest region. I know this is a lengthy query but I'm trying to show that I have done some work and still stuck. Census work, deed, wills, guardianship, military records and pension, marraige records, all have been looked at (although not found in alot of cases). I could have missed something and hope someone else can help find it or somewhere someone has a lead, a female named Indianna that might fit. A family bible with a possible match, or a way of tracking down that Jacob L. and Frances. Possible another marraige source than I have used for my couple, ie. Lesley and Indianna. Access to the state library might find something new. I'm really desperate and have not been able to pursue Indianna's line for about 13 years. HELP if you can, please. I believe that Lesley could have a will or a deed, or guardianship listed somewhere, possible mis-spelled, mispellings I have seen include MAYERS, MEYERS, MEYARS, MIERS, MYRES, MOYERS. He was spelling it MYERS on his military records. If you can find a misspelling, it's probably been "used" on a record. IT soundexes differently if you drop the "S" off, so M-620 and M-600 are possiblities (by the way, anyone researching a name with an S on the end that can drop off, you need to drop it and soundex your name again, I have found MANY familes doing that).
