He appears making a statement for my g-g-grandfather Baker Arnold on his Civil War pension records. He verifies Baker's service as a soldier and he states that the two of them walked home together following their release at the end of the war. Much later, following the death of his wife when Baker was in his 80's he married Mary Manis (a younger Mary Manis than the one mentioned above. This Mary was 18 at the time of their marriage) I am guessing because of the close friendship of Isham and Baker and that they both married Manis girls that Rhoda and Mary were related, but I have not researched this. I have the marriage record for Mary and Baker, as well as complete Civil War records on Baker. A neat story was told to me by the descendents of Baker Arnold and Mary Manis. When asked why she married a man so much older than she was, Mary would always say, "I'd rather be an older man's darling than a younger man's slave!" Sounds like Mary Manis Arnold was one smart gal! She later remarried into the Smith family following Baker's death in 1925. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: lestar_1 Surnames: Stark Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.tennessee.counties.hawkins/9537/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My great-grandfather, George W. Stark, was born in Honeycutt, TN in 1871. His parents, Henry & wife (name unknown) died in an accident somewhere in TN when George was young. Older brother William left and was never heard from. Younger brother Richard Stark was adopted and took the name of his adopted parents. Elizabeth who was just a baby when parents died kept the Stark name, but lived with another family. George later moved on to OK near Ryan & Duncan where he married and died there in 1945. There were no family historical records found concerning Henry Stark and wife. I'm looking for any information on the Stark surname(s) in Hawakins or Honeycutt,Tn area and any specific information on Henry, Richard or Elizabeth. 2. Kay, We are probably related. My ancestors include: Williams, Shanks, Alvis, Phillips. There are many people that are researching Pyne and Shanks, two of my grandmother's cousins (Williams) married Pyne. I knew that John Pyne (Pine) married Nancy Shanks and is buried in the Shanks family cemetery. May I ask the Shanks family who Henry Pyne married, it looks like he had 2 sons. John Pyne or Pine also had a brother name James Pyne and a sister Mary Pyne or Pine who is my great-grandmother who married George W. Morris. From what I gather James Pyne also stayed in Hawkins County but I cannot find any records for him, he did serve in the civil war but afterwards I cannot find any records of him. I have found Pyne or Pine to be spelled two different ways in some of the records I have researched. This is a wonderful gift. I see several names of interest... notably a Reuben Owens, sgt. My ggg-uncle, Hardy Owens was in the Bunch Reg't. and died on the way to the battle of Horseshoe Bend. He is the brother of John Owens, Jr., my ggggrandfather, of Knoxville, TN. I was wondering if Reuben is also related. My Owens originate in SW VA, then upper E TN (Grainger) and then end up in Knox Co. John Owens married Sarah Gibbs, thought to be related to Nicholas Gibbs, who died at Horseshoe Bend.
