Author: MichelleWilsonLigon Surnames: Harmon, Smith Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.tennessee.counties.hawkins/9544.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Ray, I'm not related, but I see a David Harmon on the 1830 census for Hawkins Co. On the 1840, he seems to have died, since Sarah Harmon (b. 1790-1800) is head of household. This couple was the only Harmon/Harman family in Hawkins Co. during those census years. They had several children. The Harmons lived next to Susan or Judith Smith on both censuses, and next to Alfred Bailey in 1830. There are numerous Harmons in neighboring Greene Co., TN during 1840 and 1850 at least. I'd say David was somehow related to these. Interactive map of TN: http://www.familyhistory101.com/maps/tn_cf.html Also, there is a Henry Harmon in 1840 neighboring Grainger Co., TN, b. 1780-1790, possibly a brother of David. Lewis Harmon of Grainger is the other possible relative, b. 1800-1810, possibly a son of Henry. Adam Harmon b. 1785 of neighboring Washington Co., TN (1840 census) may be a brother of David. And, Ira Harmon of the same county, possibly Adam's son. I would look for a will for David Harmon in Hawkins Co. I would also look for any Smith wills in Hawkins Co., of the period 1800-1860, in case Sarah Harmon is mentioned in one. There is a good possibility that those wills exist if they weren't destroyed during the Civil War when courthouses were burned. Patricia Treadwell at Mrwonderful @bledsoe.net is a volunteer willing to do look-ups of will abstracts. I have not verified her e-mail address, but I hope it is current. (http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~tnhawkin/lookup.html). Also, check Genforum for a Harmon/Harman message board and see what info you come up with for leads. You might find some birth and death dates which will help narrow down your search. For example: http://genforum.genealogy.com/harmon/messages/6441.html. Or better yet! -- http://genforum.genealogy.com/cgi-bin/pageload.cgi?hawkins::harmon::6448.html Good luck! Michelle Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. He died and was buried in the New Hope Methodist Cemetery april 5th 1882. Lawrenceville GA. His father was Moses I McConnell and Mother was Elizabeth Draper McConnell. Both still buried on the family plot. (i have more info on this as well.) Our Family thought Moses came over from Ireland (occording to reacords kept by our gg grandfather) it is likely Moses was the Son of Abraham McConnell from York PA. 1724-1750 Also possible Abraham was the son of Abram dd 1756 My family is also working on our family tree. So far we go back to Moses McConnell. I could send you alot of info if you would like. Also, Tilford's wife Nancy Billue McConnell grew up in my county and apparently still have quite a few graves of the Billue clan around. In the 1870 census he is working on a farm with Jos Beal. In the 1880 census, he is a cabinet maker and wife is Emma. IN 1900 he is a contractor with wife Hannah. In 1910 he had moved to Murphy, NC, but they have no record of his death in 1915. Since he lived in Rogerville longer than anywhere, I thought an obituary could tell me where he died. Abraham was married to Elizabeth in 1850 and there was no Newton living with them. I think that Newton Anderson was the son of Abijah Anderson. Teenagers were often hired out by their parent in Hawkins County. It is also possible the Elizabeth was related in some way to Abijah Anderson or his wife but there is no marriage record. Ages between the 1850 and 1860 Hawkins County census vary from 8-12 years, so the 1860 age for Newton fits very well. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
