Do any of you have more than this on William Skelton? William is my 5th great grandfather. "Distant Crossroads", a publication of the Hawkins County Genealogical Society, lists William Skelton as a Revolutionary War Soldier of Hawkins County Tennessee "William Skelton b. 4 Mar 1762 VA served in VA age 72 1832 pension list. On 1840 Hawkins Co. TN census" (No. S-3915). (Distant Crossroads, April 1986, p. 36) "William: b 3-4-1762 VA d a (ante...before) 3-4-1844 TN m X (unknown) Pvt VA PNSR (soldier pensioned)" (DAR Patriot Index - Centennial Edition, Part 3, 1990) He was yet living at 71 years of age when on 27th of May 1833 he applied for a pension for his Revolutionary War service. I quote T. Bailey, "He volunteered in the army, or service of the United States, under the immediate command of Captain Samuel Coleman in the County of Caroline and State of Virginia, on about the last of April or first of May 1779." Hi Jody, I have to ask, "Which" John Miller? As you may have seen I just posted on my Miller ancestors who fought in the Kings Mountain campaign. These were the family of John Miller (b. 1753) who was married to Mary Keene, B. Abt. 1760, probably PA. or Botetourt Co. Virginia. Jeff Jody Hamabata wrote: > 1. If anyone else responds re: surnames, would you please change the subject line to reflect your surnames? That way we can have an idea of the names you are researching. With the subject line as above, people who don't want to read a post regarding that subject, will just delete the messages thereby missing opportunities to connect with you and for you to connect with them. In his pension papers, William Walling says he was born on "Christmas day 1759 'old style'". If you convert the old style to the new, this is the conversion: 12/25/1759 Old Style corresponds to 13/5/1759 New Style, or 1/5/1760 as stated in family records handed down from that time. I have extensive information on William's descendants for anyone interested in his lineage. I'm always looking for new cousins to swap info with! Lucy was dau of Robert Wright and Catherine Hoskins who died in Trimble Co., KY. Robert Wrights' brother, John, m Mary Ann Burrows. Their dau Susan married William Matlock most likely in Hawkins Co., TN. (Wm's death notice says that). William was s/o George Matlock and Margaret McKirgan. Patsey Hoskins m Robert A. Smith whose dau, Marcella Smith, m John Matlock. Mary Morris, 1690, m Louis Contesse... dau Ann Contesse m John Tyler and their son John married Mary Marot Armistead. Their son was John Tyler, IV, 10th President of the United States. The Marot/Armistead/Tyler/Shield/Callaways are all connected. Robert Booth Armistead of York, VA m Anne Shields and were the parents of Mary Marot Armistead. The Shields were also married into the Cobbs who were in Hawkins Co. I have an unknow Morris who m Sarah Cartmell, dau of Thomas Cartmell, d 1808 Frederick Co., VA, and Ann Hite. The Hites married Dorseys in Louisville, KY. Sarah Ann Dorsey m John B. Callaway, Jr. 1824 Shelby Co., KY and were in Greenfield, Greene, IL. They are my ggggGrandparents. My McMahans were in Clark Co., KY going to Dubois, IN and married Dillon. This family is connected to my Blackwell/Riedemann. Emma E. Riedemann m Edwin Lee Williams, s/o Milton Williams and Eloise Callaway of Greenfield... originally from KY. Have lots of others but they are in connection with my dau-in-law. However, there have always been McMahans associated with the Callaway families. The only Shanks I have was Esther, b NY, who m Phillip Michaels in Rock Island, IL. Their dau, Rebecca, m Gilbert Edwards. The Edwards family m Wilcox who m into the Williams family.... Milton Williams m Eloise Callaway. The Williams came from NC. Edwards VT as well as the Wilcox. No Gilligans or Pines. By the way the Willliams/Riedemann/Matlock families ended up in Mobile County, AL from Greenfield. Thru the Matlocks and Williams I have a lot of information dating back to the 1850's... letters, pictures, household items, hair which I plan to have the DNA analized for Callaway. I am fortunate to have these items even tho most of the pictures have no names. Through deduction as to their origin I believe I have identified most of them, but can be certain. I also sent for pension papers for many of the family members and found a wealth of information I had not fomerly had. Through this website and others I have been in contact with many new found relatives who have generously shared their information and pictures, so thanks to all of you for sharing, especially Tony. The Callaways have a website on Rootsweb called CFA Association. My ancestry is Joseph Callaway > Richard Callaway and Elizabeth Hoy Jones > John B. Callaway and Martha Robertson Booker > John B. Callaway and Sarah Ann Dorsey > Edwin Henry Callaway and Matilda Matlock > Eloise Callaway and Milton Williams > Edwin Lee Williams and Emma E. Riedemann > my mother who is still living at 93.
