Surnames: Johnson, Hart, Lawson Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/XeB.2ACE/3194.2.1 Message Board Post: The Abner Johnson that you are referring to was traditionally the son of Stephen D. Johnson, also the son of Thomas Johnson, and the traditional brother of Abner Johnson. However, it has concerned me that Abner and his children were not mentioned in the will of Thomas Johnson. Regardless of that, Abner Johnson's (1880) wife Charlotte was know to be the daughter of Richard Lawson and Franky Hart, who was undoubtedly the son of Thomas Lawson Sr. Since Martin Lawson married the widow of Abner Johnson, Anderson Lawson married Anna Johnson daughter of Thomas Johnson, Anderson Lawson's son Harmon married Abner Johnson's daughter Susan, and Anderson Lawson's son Dyer married Abner Johnson's daughter Lucinda, it suggests that Martin and Anderson were probably closely related. This would be less problematic if Abner Johnson was the grandson of Thomas Johnson rather than his son. First cousin marriages were very rare, and to have two of them in the Johnson family would be unusual! . David

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/XeB.2ACE/3194 Message Board Post: David & Paula: Hannah is named in Thomas' will, but Hannah Brown is specifically named in the estate settlement. Further, Hannah Brown gives New York as father's place of birth in 1880 as do his other kids alive in 1880. Also, in the 1860 census, Thomas himself gives New York as place of birth. They all attended Sulphur Springs Church in Poor Valley, Hawkins County in the 1830's & 1840's. William C. Brown was apparently a Baptist Minister in both TN & Missouri. Martin Lawson married Patsy Johnson who was a widow of Abner D. Johnson and daughter in law to Thomas. Their farm surrounded the present day Barker Cem. in Poor Valley. It was in the family until the 1880's. Doug

The William Brown from 1850 Greene County, MO was born in NC and his wife and family were born in TN. So, it seems likely that the Greene County, MO William Brown lived in TN when he married Hannah. If Andrew Johnson moved to NC, then there could be some truth to it. If he didn't, then it isn't likely that he was the father of the Greene County William Brown. It may only be the will that mentions her--Haner in the will. The will is online at the Hawkins County genweb site at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnhawkin/will6.htm#THOMAS%20JOHNSON

I checked the copy of the probate of Thomas' that you sent me and I couldn't find a mention of Hannah. I know there could be several reasons for that but it makes you wonder since the Hannah in MO was still living at the time. Any ideas? Paula

Surnames: Brown, Johnson, Cobb Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/XeB.2ACE/3192.1 Message Board Post: There is a Hawkins County marriage record for William C. Brown and Hannah Johnson dated May 22, 1836. I don't know if there is any document there actually names Hannah Brown as the daughter of Thomas Johnson. It may be based on circumstance. Thomas Johnson left property to a daughter named Haner in his 1854 will. In 1840, William C. Brown was enumerated next to Edward Cobb, John Brown (father?) and Thomas Johnson. Edward Cobb's wife was known to be the daughter of Thomas Johnson, so it all fits. There was a William and Hannah Brown in Greene County, MO in 1850, living next to Daniel R. and Mary Brown, but there is no Hawkins County marriage record for Daniel Brown. However, John Brown had a young man living with him in 1840 who was very close to Daniel's age so it could be him. Webster County, MO wasn't formed until 1855.

    3. Is there anyone in Hawkins County on this list? I am searching for someone who might live at Bulls Gap in Hawkins County. Decendents of Henry Moore, (b. ca 1765) say that he died 11 November 1824 in Bulls Gap, and that his wife, Elizabeth died ca 1826. I am looking for proof of this. They had children:John, James, Elijah, Andrew, Calvin, Anna, Polly, Betsy, Bell, Alexander (Married Betsy Brown Jenkins in Bulls Gap), and William Moore, who married Lucinda Burgess Miller ca 1819 in Bulls Gap. Does anyone have any County books with marriages, cemeteries, anything that would help me. Thank you. --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? The all-new My Yahoo! Get yours free!
