If anyone is researching any of these families OR folks who married into these families, I would LOVE to hear from you! Apparently, not too many folks are researching them. Lawson (wife Maria) in the 1860 Pike Co., OH census you noted is the son of Paschal. This Andrew's wife Maria is a Rickords and is a sister to our William Rickords who married Andrew's sister Icy Lawson (daughter of Paschal). The children were quadruple cousins (4 Lawsons married 4 Rickords siblings). The 1850 Information on Clement is strange. It was taken in November 1850. He is listed as 26 but should be about 31 going on 32 in two months. Each child is listed about 1 year older than real age. Andrew listed as born in KY in 1839. One child Nancy Jane listed as b: NY in 1870 census so maybe Clem went to NY 1850 - 1860 period ? A son James K. Polk Lawson b: 1845.07.05 is not even listed. Clem’s age based on 1900 census b: January 1819 is given as 1821.01.10 in his pension affidavit 1950 age 26 (s/b 31) – taken November 12, 1850 and would be 32 two months later the following January note: the ages starting with John Monk (69) just above Clement (26) through his wife Mary (37) and eldest daughter Lucinda (14) appear to have been erased. John Monk’s is just barely legible (this fits John Monk of Hawkins Co., TN 1860 can not locate Clem and his whole family 1870 age 52 taken June 16-17, 1870 1880 age 63 taken ? 1900 age 81 taken June 18, 1900

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/XeB.2ACE/3079.1.2.1.3.2.1.2 Message Board Post: So far I have found mention in early Hawkins Co. court records - William Stapleton vs Owen Sizemore and Jos. K. Stapleton vs Rhea prior to 1830 census. I do not have easy access to land records prior to 1830 but I do know that Isaac and Andrew Stapleton did get land grant in 1832. Family tradition in Andrew's family is a story of two brothers coming to Hawkins Co., down the river (most likely from Russell Co. Va) There are records of a Nancy Stapleton in tax records of Russell Co. I have found no land record for James Stapleton. William Stapleton and William Stepleton were in early tax records of Hawkins Co., in different companies. William Stepleton was a witness regarding land in Puncheon Camp. William Stapleton was witness regarding land involving Sizemore. In 1830, Nancy Stapleton 50-59 with daughter 15-19, Andrew Stapleton 20-29 with wife (Sarah Sizemore) and children , and James Stapleton20-29 with wife (Susan Singleton) and four sons (William, Nelson, twin! s John and Robert)are on the same page very near each other. William 40-49 with wife (?) and daughter (?), Isaac 30-39 with another male 20-29 (maybe Thomas), wife (Nancy Sizemore) and children and Edward 20-29 are on a different page near the Sizemore families. Was William Stapleton divorced from Elizabeth Sizemore Stapleton or did he die? If he died, then the William on the 1830 census is not the same William. When did she marry Larkin Willis? The land which was transfered to Sarah Stapleton by Elizabeth Sizemore Stapleton Willis and James Willis was when? When did she marry James Willis? I know that James Willis was married prior to his marriage to Sarah. W. W. Willis was a son from this marriage. James Stapleton was apparently mentioned in a land record involving James Willis, but I have not seen this. W. W. Willis gave testimony when James Stapleton's sons filed for pensions. Also, Nelson Stapleton did not live too far from him. Also, I am wondering if ! there might not be some confusion about the Sarah Stapletons. Sarah, daughter of Elizabeth and William and listed as 2nd wife of James Willis and Sarah who married Albert Templeton in 1840 whose surity was James Willis. It seems somewhat improper for James Willis to have married his step sister. I'm sure stranger things have happened. Let me know if you have any more information about James Stapleton please.

Now whether she was an unmarried Stapleton, or the wife of an Isaac Sr., an Andrew Sr., or William - I do not know. We have an 1814 deed in which John Wallen of Claiborne County sold property to William Stapleton located on Copper Ridge on the north side of Clinch Mountain. We have the 1819 deed in which Larkin Willis gave his stepdaugher Sally Stapleton, daughter of his new wife Elizabeth formerly Stapleton, the land where William Stapleton formerly lived. We know that James Stapleton lived on or near Copper Ridge. And, we know that Andrew, Isaac and James named their oldest sons William. So, it is a reasoned leap of faith to presume that James Stapleton was the son of William Stapleton. But, there is a competing genealogy that argues their father was Isaac Stapleton Sr.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/XeB.2ACE/3079.1.2.1.3 Message Board Post: He isn't the son of old William of Lee Co., VA. that I can find. There were four William Stapleton's in the western Va., eastern Tn area at about the same time and possibly more. Some may be the same, but it is hard to tell. #1 William with 2nd wife Mary lived in Lee Co., Va. He apparently had children from earlier marriage since he gave permission for son Robert to marry prior to his (Wm) marriage to Mary Brown. He also had children with Mary. Green Co., TN has marriage records for #2 William and Hannah Lane. #3 William Stapleton who was married to Elizabeth Sizemore and had Sarah Stapleton. #4 William Stapleton who is mentioned in Oney will in Va. Sullivan Co., TN has tax record for William Stapleton. Hawkins Co., TN has tax records for William Stapleton and William Stepleton. There are also court record and land records for William Stapleton/William Stepleton in Hawkins Co., TN. This isn't even including the William who was the son of Thomas Stapleton who m! oved to Clay Co., KY. I suspect that James and Andrew were the sons of Nancy who was either single or widowed by 1830 census. There is a William in 1830 with wife and daughter but I haven't figured out who he is. He isn't William/Elizabeth/Sarah. There is a North Carolina marriage record for William Stapleton and Nancy Tarrington 1800. They may have moved west. So far I have no evidence that these are the parents of James. There is a James Stapleton in the 1810 census of Montgomery Co., VA over 45 who has males of the right age range for Isaac, James, Andrew, and Thomas. Still, I have found no evidence of a connection to any Virginia Stapleton families to date. Unless sources are sited, I consider it pure speculation or jumping to assumptions.

I think the Thomas Stapleton you are referring to was also descended from James Stapleton through a brother of Nelson's. I cannot remember off hand who, either John or Robert who were born in 1830. 3. Dear Dianne, CONGRATULATIONS on your research!!!! Best of luck to you and your family in the future! I am still researching my RIPLEY/CREWS families in Hawkins Co. and I hope some of these newly found Court House records will help shed some light on them~ Yes, yet another "Up-Hill Battle" to say the least. Best wishes..... Lisa Bass Texas From: Dianne Ingram<mailto:diannein@yahoo.com> To: TNHAWKIN-L@rootsweb.com<mailto:TNHAWKIN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, February 01, 2005 10:24 PM Subject: [TNHAWKIN] Dr. George Halleck Ingram I just want to tell a success story. Many of you have put up with my "queries" for years so I want to let you know of this breakthrough for me. I started this Ingram search in about 1995. It has been an uphill battle. The last of January this year, I located a "missing cousin". His mother and another "cousin" were active in searching for our Ingram line 1950/1960/1970. This "missing cousin" had a picture of our Dr. George Halleck Ingram! Dr. George was born 10 MAY 1817 in KY. He died 26 JAN 1894 in Effingham Co., Il. and is buried in the Freemanton Cemetery. He was married 4 times. Our line comes from his 3rd marriage to Nancy Jane Roberson. She was born 3 AUG 1838 in Indiana and died 11 JUN 1873. George and Nancy had 10 children. Married into this line of children was: Marion Denny, Joel L. Duncan, John McDill, Charlotte Bracken, Margaret Chezem, Ida Alice Byers, Charles H. Bourland, Alice M. Royer, Henry C. W. Heers, Effie (Redman)Zears and Josph L. Crumm. Marriages occur from 1888 to 1891. I still have many questions about Dr. George's father, James Ingram b: 1787 in Hawkins Co., TN. and died 1850 somewhere in KY. But I just wanted to know of my happiness and encourage you to "hang in there". I REALLY REALLY appreicate knowing of the progress of the volunteers working on Hawkins County past history. I want to thank them so much for the dedication and just having a progress report once a month is so encouraging to me. Thank you each and every one of you.
