Elva applied for her widows pension in Hancock County. I am reasonably certain that Mormon & Elva Lawson's son was the Mormon (m. Elizabeth) who was living in Hancock County for the 1850 census. I have copied my post dated 12 May 20004 requesting information on Mormon Jr. & his wife Elizabeth Williams. I didn't get a response to this query. Mormon Lawson (Jr.) b. 1818 in Lee County, Va., d. 1905 on Indian Ridge in Hancock County, Tenn., s/o Mormon Lawson (Sr.) & Elva Collins, 1st married 1844, in Hancock County, Tenn., Elizabeth “Betsey” Williams, b. abt. 1826 in Ky. or Tenn., d. after 1880 census & before abt. 1892, probably in either Claiborne or Hancock County, Tenn., d/o probably Charles & Rebecca -?- Williams of Hancock Cty. (need proof of parents). Mormon married 2nd abt. 1892/93, Martha (Mullins) Collins, b. Apr 1865, d. unk., said to be the widow of Curren/Keran Collins. Mormon Lawson Jr. is buried in the Polly Miser Cemetery, located on Panther Creek, Hancock Cty, Tenn. (Cemetery name may have been changed.) Mormon Lawson was also known as Monroe Lawson, Marian Lawson and Bowman Lawson. Per census records: Mormon was living 1850 in Hancock County and 1860 Mormon (Monroe) lived in Scott County, Va. Mormon & Elizabeth’s location in 1870 is unknown, but their children were living in Grainger County, daughter Elvey was head of household. In 1880 Mormon (Marian) lived in Claiborne County. In 1900 Mormon (Monroe) and his 2nd wife Martha were living in Hancock County. In 1910 widow Martha Lawson and Mormon's last two children were in Hancock County. Children of Mormon Lawson & Elizabeth “Betsey” Williams (from census records): (1.) Elvey Lawson, b. abt. 1846, m. Unk. (2.) Mary Lawson, b. abt. 1847, m. Unk. (3.) Phoebe Lawson, b. abt. 1850, m. There is some speculation that it's Moremon Lawson (Sr) b. VA abt 1745, and other speculation that it may be Thomas Lawson from N.C. area. I’ve heard that Elvy/Elvie Collins Lawson filed for a pension (Morman Lawson Sr's wife) around 1855 listing 3 children: Peter, Morman (Moman?) & Phoebe. I'm not sure if it lists where she lived at the time she filed...I would love to know. In 1850 there are 2 sets of Peter & Morman (Moman) Lawsons: 1 set in Hancock Co, TN 197 Peter Lawson m. Isa? 198 George & Pheba? Misor (not sure if this is their sister Phoebe?) 203 Morman Lawson m. Elizabeth All born in VA with a number of Collins neighbors. It does make sense that these are the Mormon Sr & Elvie Collins children. However, the other set in Hawkins Co, KY.in 1850 74 Peter Lawson TN?, m. Elizabeth 102 Morman Lawson VA, m.Rachael Rachel (if it’s the one from Lee Co, VA in 1830 Census) had 3 children prior to her marriage to Mormon Lawson (Jr?). I've seen the names Milly, Suzie & John Roberts listed as Rachael’s children (I haven't seen anything concrete on that though) and in Pulaski Co, Ky we have listed: Milla (Milly?) Roberts and Josiah Russell Susan (Susie?) Roberts and John Whiteas (Whitis?) If this is Mormon (Jr’s) Rachael (Lee Co, VA), she lived in the same county as Mormon Lawson SR (& Jr) in 1830. If this is where Mormon Jr met Rachael Roberts, I still feel there is a strong possibility that Mormon Sr is the father of Mormon Lawson Jr in Hawkins Co...or at the least a close relative...uncle, etc. Another choice it seems is Thomas Lawson who lived in Hawkins Co in 1850 close to Mormon (Both of the Roberts girls in Hawkins Co, KY, Milla and Susan, named a child Wm T (for William Thomas?). And is it possible this Thomas Lawson was Mormon Sr's brother? Haven't researched enough yet to find out. A lot of questions, but few answers. If I have anything wrong, or if anyone has any other info, please let me know. Thanks.

The names this family used make me keep coming back to them. My Andrew J. Marshall named his sons: Thomas William George James Elbert John I also noticed that Thomas and Lucinda Marshall lived near several of the Smith families in Hawkins County. Two of James Marshall's sons married Smith girls from Hancock County; and one of his sons married a cousin to the Smith girls. The family said that they (the Marshall boys) were visiting relatives in Rogersville when they met their wives. If I can identify Thomas and Lucinda's older sons, maybe I can exclude or conclude based on that information. Thank you, Lillie

My line has a Clinton Mannies/ Mannis (born abt 1870 in TN) married to Tennessee/Sarah. Clinton has a son Oscar born in 1903 in TN. They moved from TN to Miami, IN about 1910. The other researcher has a Martha Mannies (born abt 1856) married to Darr Lawson. They are on the 1880 Hawkins, TN census in 83rd division (3rd district). Martha also had a brother Oscar. Martha and Darr Lawson also end up in Miami, IN. We know these two families are related because the other researchers uncle has a picture of Clinton Mannis' wife Tennessee. He said that they came from Rodgersville, TN. We aren't sure how these two families connect but we know that they must and the answer probably lies in who Clinton and Martha's father is and are they the same person.
