Eliza (or Louisa) and Andrew disappeared after 1870, and there was a new family in 1880. Not much seems to be known about Nelson Manis' daughter Eliza except that she had child named Columbus born about 1869--no husband is named. Maybe Andrew and Columbus were the same individual. In 1880, Hiram was living next door to Donelson (formerly Palestine) Manis, so I don't doubt that was Hiram father. Cousin marriage was the rule in Hawkins/Hancock counties.

From Dallas Morning News 3-5-2005 Price, John P. Jr. Mr. John Pierce Price, Jr. 61, died Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at the Baylor Medical Center in Waxahachie. He was born Jan 20, 1944 in Rogersville, TN, the son of John P. And Nora Mae Davis Price. He was reared in Rogersville where he attended school. On Sept. 18, 1971 he was married to Donna Casey of Red Oak. After their marriage they lived in Dallas, Irving, and Lancaster. In 1982 they moved to Palmer. He was employed by Arnold Steel Mfg. Co. In Addison for 10 yers. In 1972 he opened Venus Marble Co. In DeSoto. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Red Oak. He is survived by his wife, Donna, of Palmer; 4 sons, Doug and his wife Sheryl Price of Arlington, Russ Price of Edgewood, Jayson Price of Palmer, Carson and his wife Sherisha Price of Palmer; 2 brtohers, Robert Price of Shady Shores, TX, Richard and his wife Sondra Price of Kemp; a sister, Joyce Vickery of Carrollton; and 5 grandchldren, Jessica, Kelila, Eli, Nathan and Aubrey. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in the J. E. Keever Mortuary Palmer Chapel with Rev. Allyson Paxton officiating. Interment will be in the Waxahachie City Cemetery under the direction of J. E. Keever Mortuary. The family will receive freinds at the Palmer Chapel from 4 to 6 pm Sunday. Memorial may be made to the 1st United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 25, Red Oak, TX 75154. Seeing this obituary this morning reminded me of a mystery I have been trying to figure out. This John Pierce Price Jr. was the son of John Pierce Price Sr. (1920-2003) who was the son of Silas Marion Price (1893/4-1963) and Mary Livia Russell. My problem is that Silas Marion is the son of A Harvey Henry Price and his wife Lena Shelton (1874-1930). Silas Marion Price is buried at Choptack Bapt. Ch. I have never been able to figure out who his father Harvey Henry was--can't even find them in the census, so don't know when he was born, don't know where he is buried, don't know if he belongs to the Hawkins Co. Prices or not. He could be buried at Choptack because of his wife's family. Can anyone help me figure out who the parents of THIS Silas Marion Price are--not their names...I know their names and I know who his mother belongs to, but not his father--Harvey Henry Price. Thanks. Hallie
I just ran across this article from the 1998 Ingram Inklings booklet. From the Spring issue of Ingram Inklings a person named Bob Ford printed a chart on William Ingraham. In this chart he stated that this William died 1787 after 25 MAY 1785. NOTE: We know that William the Orphan lived long enough to claim his Rev. War pension in 1834 so perhaps the death date is for William Ingram of Caney Creek, (TN.) Bob also stated that he married Eleanor (Nelly) a widow living in 1810 in Carter's Valley, Hawkins Co., TN. Children were: Mary Elizabeth Ingraham b: 1777? In England? d: abt. 1858 in Washington Co., Ark. Married abt. 1795 to Samuel Wilson, II who was born abt. 1771. Thomas Ingraham - d: Dec. 1843 Married: Martha Tyree on Oct. 1810. William Ingraham Eleanor (Nelly) Ingraham b: 20 JUL 1783; d: 5 SEP 1842 in Madison Co., Al. Married: Joseph Criner of Ryland, Madison Co., Al. Margaret (Peggy) Ingraham - d: 1816 Married James Long. In 1774 there was a William Ingram in Capt. William Herbert's militia Company who apparently fought in Lord Dunmore's War at Point Pleasant on the Ohio. List of men is as follows: Neial Roberts, William Roberts, James Wallen, Joseph Wallen, Thomas Wallen, James Wallin, John Cox, George Sizemore,Micajer Bunch, Doswell Rogers, Nathaniel Wilshire, Clement Lee, George Keith, David Cox, Elisha Collins, Lewis Collins, John Collins, John Collins, Jr. John Cox, David Cox, Daniel Blevins, James Blevins, William Blevins and William Riddle. William the Orphan was living in Montgomery County, VA. in the Elk Creek area in 1779. Line I am searching: Andrew Ingram joined the Rev. war in Sept. of 1779 and was in the Elk Creek Militia of Montgomery County, VA. Both men served under a Capt. Love, but not at the same time. Sounds like these boys lived close to each other. This William the Orphan married Harriet (Happy)Rogers/Roberts Riddle in 1784. (the widow of his friend William Riddle). This William Riddle was taken before the Montgomery County Court several times as a Loyalist starting in 1779. Eventually he was hanged. William the Orphan was also accused of Loyalist leanings so they moved to Hawkins County, Tennessee around Kyles Ford from Virginia. Happy died the next year (in childbirth?). Her brother and a relative of her first husband raised her children. William the Orphan would have been about 26 when he married Happy. He could have been married previously. Did he have a child with Happy? It has been reported to me that a Thomas Riddle purchased land on Caney Creek(before the 1780's??) as well as the William Ingram (1st Ingram in Hawkins Co., TN) b: 1733. William the Orphan appears to have been good friends with William Riddle. William the Orphan married William Riddle's widow. I would guess that Thomas and William Riddle were either brothers or cousins. We have record of two William Ingram's in early Hawkins Co., Tennessee. The first William Ingram purchased many acres of land. Most of his purchases were in White County. His 200 acres in Sullivan County on 5 DEC 1794 adjoined a Mary Ingram who had 388 acres. It appears this William purchased land but it was surveyed/recorded at a later date. A William Ingram owned many tacts of land in Carter's Valley in Tennessee. Eleanor Ingram was listed as widow in the 1800 Pres. church records. The 2nd William Ingram came at a later date and it is ASSUMED this is the man we call "William the Orphan". It is interesting to note here that William Ingraham, who claims he was born in Granville, NC. in 1758 the same year and place as our William's son Andrew was born. He stated he was an orphan at an early age and "raised without family". This William the Orphan joined the Rev. War in 1776. (Pension # S21341) Does this mean Andrew and this William the Orphan were brothers? Looking forward to speculations!! Dianne __________________________________ Celebrate Yahoo!'s 10th Birthday! Palestine Manis was the brother of Clinton A. Manis--hence the Clinton in the line. Clinton Manis was murdered by Iredell Campbell Willis towards the end of the Civil War. Hiram was listed as Heron in the 1860 District 3 Census, but that was probably an error on the part of the enumerator. It isn't written were well and could be read as Hiran. Hiram married Louisa Manis in 1869 and then Cynthia Jane Walker in 1877. Then name difference--Louisa versus Eliza--was probably transcription error in the marriage records or a census enumeration error or she was named Louisa Elizabeth--you will probably never know for sure. These errors are very common. There was an Elizabeth Manis living next door to Hiram 1860 with Sullivans who was either 20 or 26 depending upon how you read the image. One problem that you may have is that people switched beteen first and middle names and nicknames.

Bertha is one of Clinton and Tennessee's daughters. Bertha's daughter got the following information from her grandmother Tennessee. Clinton Mannies is the son of Hiram Manis (born 1851) and Eliza Manis of Hawkins, TN. Besides Clinton, she has children listed as Andrew, Jim and Amanda. Marriage on TN marriage list of Hiram Manis to Eliza Manis 28 Jan 1869 in Hawkins, TN. I found a 1870 Dist 3, Hawkins, TN census Manis, Hiram age 19, born TN, farmer , Eliza age 26?, born TN , Andrew age 3 months, born May in TN On the 1880 83rd Division, 3rd District, Hawkins, TN Mainis, Hiram age 30, born TN, farm laborer , Jane age 25, born TN , Lillie age 6, born TN , General age 4, born TN , Joseph age 2, born TN , Samie or Jamie age 1 month, born May in TN I am wondering if the son General, age 4 could be our Clinton. We have not been able to find him under the name Clinton or anything close to that name. I did a quick look to see if I found any other records under the name General Manis and didn't find anything. Bobbi, you will be especially interested in this next part. Bertha's daughter told me the first time I talked to her that she knew there was a tie in with the Lawson family but couldn't remember how and had to find her notebook she wrote everything down in. Tonight she told me that this is what her grandmother Tennessee told her. Hiram Manis married Eliza Manis, which I have already mentioned. Eliza Manis had a sister named Martha who was married to Darr Lawson. So according to this information Martha Jane Manis and Eliza Manis were sisters. So your Martha would be my Oscar's grandmothers sister (If I have that right.) If you look on the census records of Nelson Manis (1850 and 1860) there is a daughter Eliza listed as 2 years older than Martha. Bertha's daughter seemed pretty sure about this information and she also knew that Tennessee was the daughter of Jim Horton (stepfather) and Mary Christian ( her mothers married name). I did some looking on this line and Eldridge H. Christian married Mary E. Arnold on 9 May 1870 in Hawkins, TN. On the 1880 Dist 78, Hawkins, TN census Christian, Eldridge age 29, born TN, both parents TN,farmer , Mary E. age 30, born TN, both parents TN , William R. age 8, born TN , Nancy A. age 6, born TN , Sarah A. age 3, born TN (this is Tennessee) Upon looking further it looks like Eldridge Christian is the son of Stephen H. and Sarah (Sallie) L. Christian. Mary E. Arnold may be the daughter of William and Nancy Arnold. Let me know what you all think. Do any of you out there on the Manis lines have any more information on Hiram Manis or his wife Eliza Manis? Janet
