He was born 1815 in Caroll Co. VA, live mostly in Lee Co VA. If so, then the parents of Matthew is Aaron Roberts; however, I don't know which wife would be his mother. Aaron was married at least twice. One wife was Mary Goode. Have you tried to go to Google.com and type in hawkins co TN, go to the genealogy/info page and there is a lot you can look for like deeds, etc. I see your post is quite old, if you found them and they are Aaron Roberts, let me know, please. I believe that Jane Hicks married to Thomas Hicks was the previously widowed mother of Martin Lawson, and that is why Martin Lawson was living there in 1850. In 1860, Martin Lawson was living with Bartley Lawson and Nancy was living with Daniel Venable which would support the idea that Nancy and Mary were sisters.
