But, I am glad that you found that entry. Sela was the former Sela (Celia) Russell, stepdaughter of Meredith Lawson. Meredith married Nancy Russell, his apparent stepdaughter who was the sister of Sela Russell. So, that is why Wilson was living with James Marshall in 1870, John Marshall was married to William Dalton's sister. William Dalton was married to the stepdaughter of Meredith's brother John Jackson Lawson. Nancy Russell had two children by Meredith Lawson--Dyer and John Lawson. David

Surnames: Lawson Monk Roberts Howe Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/XeB.2ACE/3301.1 Message Board Post: We have a Paschal Lawson from Pike Co. OH found in the 1836 Hawkins Co., TN Tax List in Civil District 3. In the next District, CD 4 are The Monks - John, Shadrick (Shady) and Dauswell as well as Dauswell Rogers. The Monks are there in the 1830s as found in the census. They are from Russell/Lee Co., VA - John believed to be son of old Shadrack Monk and Mary Ellen Roberts. (name note: the name Dalzel (corruption of Dauswell ? and also known as Dallas/Dallsy) appears in the Lawson (old Clement) and Manis (William & Lydia) Lawson) families Hawkins Co. TN > Henry/Madison Co., IN). Another related name is Orlena/Irena/Marena used interchangeably in these folks). In 1840 our Paschal has gone to Pike Co. OH – a group of families, all from TN intermarried into the William Howe family of TN – link to Winstead family. 1850 there is a John Monk 69 yrs old b: VA enumerated with our Paschal Lawson family. I don’t know if John Monk was in Hawkins/Hancock Co., TN or Lee Co., VA or elsewhere in 1840. This is likely, but not proven to be, the John Monk who was married to Nancy Rogers as there are Dawes/Daus/Dozwell, Shadrick/Shady, Ezekiel Monks in the next counties over from Pike (Scioto and Jackson Co. OH) in the 1850s and later. There is a marriage record for a John Monk and Patsy Lawson for 1844 in Pike Co. OH. We are wondering if it may be the same John Monk marrying the widowed mother of a Clement Lawson (possible son of Edmund Lawson d: 1832 and Patsy of Hawkins Co. TN). This Clement was probably closely related to Paschal Lawson (Paschal’s nephew ?). (see 1830 Hawkins Co. census entry for Edmund Lawson with boys aged same as Paschal and Clem Lawson Jr.). The 1850 Pike Co., OH census lists the following families in order: Andrew Roberts (brother-in-law of Paschal Lawson), (married Mary Ann “Polly” Howe 1832 in Hawkins Co., TN – sec. signed by Enoch Lawson – Enoch linked to Hennis, Banks and Frankey & Andrew Stapleton family via 1836 Hawkins Co. court record). Martha Roberts (possibly Andrew's mother/grandmother/aunt b: 1772 in TN - this would be before statehood), Paschal Lawson (with John Monk in household), Clement Lawson (Clem Jr., son of Edmund of Hawkins Co.?) (note: Clem loson found in KY, Perry Co. in 1840 fits the profile exactly - wife & two eldest children and a few Hawkins Co., TN names in the area to boot). Also a possibility but speculation at this point is that Martha Roberts above could possibly be the aunt by marriage of John Monk (his wife Nancy Rogers' father Dauswell/Doswell Rogers' sister (Dauswell and Martha were children of Thomas Rogers Sr.). I don't have the 1840 Hawkins Co. census to verify either a Nancy Monk or John Monk. I wonder if John was in OH and Nancy died somewhere around 1840 ? The Lawson and Roberts families went to IL and MO by 1870 and John Monk's final destination and resting place remain unknown. 1860 Lawrence Co., Ohio p. 117 Dawswell Monk - 21 Oh. laborer living with a Reuben Yates family. 1860 Lawrence Co., Ohio p. 128 Wiley Monk - 55 Tenn. collier Mary - 46 Tenn. Wiley - 9 Oh. John - 80 Tenn. infirm. (Daus & Wiley’s father and likely the John Monk from Hawkins Co., TN and living w/Paschal Lawson in 1850 aged 69) Other sons Larkin Monk married 1844 in Pike Co., OH and moved to Mercer Co., MO Shadrick / Shady Monk > Scioto Co., OH I hope this helps, Wayne

Now, they had two Lawson girls living with them in 1880--Martelia and Mary. But, Wilson was living with the Starnes along with a Mary and Alice Lawson. I believe that we know who Alice was, but I don't know who Mary was. But, in 1870 Wilson was living with James Marshall and Palestine's daughter Elizabeth was living next door with William Dalton. However, James and Celia Lawson are missing. Wilson and Joel Lawson, son of Ambrose, went to Ozark County, MO about 1893, which suggests that they might be cousins. So, who could the father of Wilson Lawson really be? David

My ggg grandmother was Nancy Bowlin VAUGHAN, married to Wilson VAUGHAN and found in the 1830 Hawkins Co TN living next to Levi BOWLIN. By 1840 census, James Bowlin is living on the other side of Levi. I believe Levi to be the parents of both Nancy and James. I haven't seen any information on James' wife and children. Researchers indicate that Levi also had a son, William. Nancy is alone with her children by 1840 still living by Levi. On the 1830 census, Levi and his wife, who is believed to be Mary Asher, are shown with 6 children still in the household, 3 boys and 3 girls. Are there any early records available in addition to these census reports? There is not much known about Levi and his children. It appears that he is deceased between 1840 and 1850. Any information about any of these ancestors would be deeply appreciated. Thank you. Phyllis
