Heck's book, DESCENDANTS OF HEZEKIAH DAVIS I, published in 1963 (and I believe it was self-published). It has a lot of information. Now, there are a couple of caveats I would make about some of his material. Heck was living in Ohio when he compiled this work, so I don't think he did very much on-site inquiry in Tenn., and I know from using it that he is not always accurate in some of his statements, e.g., I think he relied too much at face value on old folks' recollections in some instances, nor did he seem to do as much first-hand research in census and other records as you might expect. So I've learned to double-check nearly everything he says. But there is also much of value.

I don't have a lot to go on, just a lot of first names and last names that may or may not be related. But if anyone has any information they are willing to share I would so appreciate hearing from them. Grandpa Lee's parents may have been Robert (Bob) Massengill (could be spelled lots of ways) and Sarah Overbay (could be Overbee, Overbey) or Sarah Percell/Parcell. I have some old letters from my aunt that says Lee's grandma was Nellie Overbee. That she raised him after Robert was killed in a construction explosion where he worked. Lee was just an infant and Sarah, his mother, took him from Rogersville (where he was supposed to have been born) to her mother, Nellie Overbee. Nellie lived on Clinch mountain. Sarah didn't live much longer then that and Nellie ended up raising him. Looking for Nellie I come up with the 1830 hawkins Co census where a Nellie Overbee, 12-years-old is living with Nicholas Tartar and his family. And to mix all this up even more I was contacted a few years ago by a woman that said her grandmother was Nellie Overbee and Her mother Isabell Hensley Overbee married to Stephen Overbee was family. I never heard from her again. thanks to all that have read this.

Woodson Wolfe didn't marry Catherine Mills until 1854, so probably not her father. If they lived in Bulls Gap you might want to look at the Wolf-Wolfes in Greene Co. because that is much closer than the part of Hawkins/Hancock where most of the Wolfe's lived at that time period. Also, Bulls Gap is close to Hamblen Co...although located in Hawkins it is at the border with Greene and Hamblen and families from those counties married in. Of course Hamblen was not formed until later. Where is she buried...that is often a clue.
