You stated; "I have Joseph Epperson born about 1750 in Grayson County, Virginia and died September 26, 1814 in Hawkins County, Tennesse married to Jane Walker about 1785 in Grayson County, Virginia and she was the daughter of John Walker. I have his will and know that he and a brother settled before 1787 in Hawkins County." Could you please tell me what evidence you have that John Walker settled in Hawkins County in 1787, and who his brother was? I descend from this Hawkins County John Walker through his son John. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/XeB.2ACE/3371.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Anita Thank you for offering to help afraid that I have several I would like information on. I have Joseph Epperson born about 1750 in Grayson County, Virginia and died September 26, 1814 in Hawkins County, Tennesse married to Jane Walker about 1785 in Grayson County, Virginia and she was the daughter of John Walker. I have his will and know that he and a brother settled before 1787 in Hawkins County. I think he was in Wilkes County, North Carolina was that correct? I find a Robert Epperson and a Thompson Epperson and a Shadrack Epperson on the Tax Lists there. Reason I was asking and also a Joseph Epperson. I have Joseph Eppersons children as 1. Betsey born about 1793 Hawkins County and I have all children born in Hawkins County 2. Nancy Epperson born 1795 Allen Epperson born 1799 John Calvin Epperson born 1800 died July 2, 1852 Grainger Peggy Epperson born 1802 Mary Jenny Epperson born September 11, 1803 Thomas J. Epperson born February 13, 1808 Hester Epperson born Oct 17, 1811 and died May 9, 1872 married Claiborn Walker about 1827 Martha Epperson born about 1813 Ways I am related to Epperson John Calvin Epperson married first to Fanny "Phanny" Ogan before 1825 the daughter of John Ogan and Hannah Ann? Then he married Anna Jennings Their daughter Phamma Ann Epperson born April 10, 1834 Grainger died September 22, 1897 and married Tom Rose and then Martin Hipshire Then there is James Nelson Epperson born February 9, 1825 in Tennessee and died 1875 married Martha Barnard born March 22, 1835. Then there is William Calvin Epperson born 1830 in Grainger and died December 12, 1863 in Concord, Knox County Kentucky and married Nancy Luverne Hopson in Claiborne County October 14, 1853 Then Leander Hipshire born December 10, 1869 and married first to Emma Posey and second to Sarah Catherine Ward. Then Nancy Epperson or Nancy Epperson Carpenter born 1812 married Anderson Barnard so was she a Epperson married to a Carpenter or was her full name Nancy Epperson Carpenter? Last and not least of all I am also related to the Mills family and one of the Mills girls Elizabeth was married to a Shadrack but was told Owen or Epperson so am very interested in any information you might have on Shadrack Epperson and who he married for sure? Hope you can make some sense of this but really would like any help you can give me on all of these please? Linda

Isham was shot and killed there approximately 1890, do you have any info on his murder??? Isham and Rhoda had a daughter, Kissa age 8 yrs on the 1880 census, do you know anything about her, married name, location, anything? The maternal grandmother of Isham name was Keziah Sprewell her name listed on marriage bond for Matthew and Mary Dalton. I think that Kissa was her nickname not the correct spelling. Rhoda is at KeoKee in Lee Co Va 1910 with Jeams Dalton her son. Rhoda died 1922 at Kingsport staying with daughter Carrie. I linked up with great-great granddaughter of Isham and Rhoda's, as I am the same with William and Amanda. We both never could find anything on Kissa any help very much appreciated.

But, there is one curious connection that I have not been able to solve. Amanda Manis' sister Rhoda married William Dalton's brother Isham S., and Isham and Rhoda had a son named James who married a Mary Lawson who was supposedly the neice of Palestine Lawson and the daughter of Ambrose Lawson. However, the census ages for Mary don't seem to match her 1880 age. So I am not sure this is a correct genealogy for Mary.

    1. Peter Wolfe & McHenry Bray
    2. Larry Mills
    3. I am seeking info for ancestors of McHenry Bray and Peter Wolfe. I understand at one time, McHenry was sheriff of Hancock County. He married Cynthia Wolfe, daughter of Peter Wolfe. McHenry dad's name was Henry. I have reason to believe that Henry died and Margaret, Henry Bray's wife married, ole Peter Wolfe. Henry Bray's will read as follows: May 11, 1827 Hawkins County, Tennessee Will Book 1 page 33 Will of Henry Bray I Henry Bray of Hawkins County First I give and bequest to Margaret my dearly beloved wife all that I possess and what's left to raise my children on signed Henry Bray (his mark) attest: Benjamin Bray Jr, Benjamin Bray Sr. Well the plot thickens, Peter Wolfe had a daughter by his first wife and her name was Cynthia Wolfe. McHenry Bray married his step sister (no blood relation) Cynthia Wolfe . I am looking for Peter Wolfe's first wife name and Margaret (Maiden name unknown) Bray Wolfe's maiden name. I will gladly share info. Larry Mills

I hope to link up with relatives from this line and share information, I have been lucky and have found two ladies from this family at this website, Hawkins Co Tennessee. My direct line migrated from Hawkins County to northern Texas and then a short time later on into Oklahoma Territory before it became a state in 1907. Son of Mathew Dalton, William Martin Dalton/Daulton, name change spelling came in the late 1880's. William and Amanda Manis/Lawson/Dalton/Daulton are my great-great-Grandparents and they both are buried at Lawton, Comanche County, Oklahoma. Oklahoma is where William applied for his Civil War pension also.

    3. I want to apologize if I have offended anyone with my recent posting of "Strangers in the Box". It seems as though I have been contacted by a list manager that says it has nothing to do with her county. She no longer wishes me to post anything like this on her site. I will abide by her wishes. However, the loss maybe great for her subscribers. This is the only complaint that I have received. I made sure that I had permission from these subscribers to post their ideas before I posted the response to "Strangers in the Box". I have "several, several" people who have thought that these were good ideas. Ideas that they had not thought about. This posting has caused other people to share their ideas of what has worked for them. AND it has caused other people to think about getting this information before it is too late. Furthermore, ideas and positive feedback is still coming in that I haven't shared with anyone. I thought everyone interested in genealogy would like to know how to best preserve their family history. Because once it is gone (documented family pictures), it is gone!!!! And it doesn't make any difference what county we live in or what county our ancestors came from. If anyone out there would like to know the good ideas from others who have responded to this posting, you may email me privately as I do not want to get into trouble with anyone. I don't know why it is you have to come across sour apples from time to time but I guess that is what makes life interesting! It keeps us on our toes. Have a blessed day! Jane Foley NC PS I do collect stories, poems, etc and have all my life on certain subjects. I do have a nice collection genealogy related if anyone is interested in a list you can contact me privately. mjfent@bellsouth.net. I feel that this "trivia" (as some call it) only adds to my family history gives me a better understanding.
