Given her age, it seems likely that she may have been married before. Samuel Trent used the name Samuel Burton off and on from about 1818 onward. Those Trents living next to Samuel Trent and family in 1850--Jesse Trent and family, Wiley Trent and family, William Trent and family--changed their names to Burton by 1860. So, it seems possible that Samuel Trent/Burton and Jane Burton Trent were closely related. It fits with the pattern of witnesses in most pension files--they tended to be close relatives even when they didn't say so. James Trent, who is reported to have also gone by the name Burton, indicated that he was the uncle of William Trent/Burton. William Trent/Burton may have been the son of Samuel Trent/Burton--at least he appears to have been living with Samuel Trent in 1830. Given all of the evidence, it seems that Samuel Trent and James Trent shared the same mother--perhaps Jane or Charity Burton. I don't think that the jury is in on it yet.

It contains some interesting facts that I thought I would pass along although most may be redundant. In a signed affidavit dated May 17, 1843, Jane Trent, aged 78 years, states that she was the widow of Alexander Trent who was a private in the Revolutionary War. She states that she was married in Grayson Co, VA. in 1792 although she had no record evidence of her marriage. She also states that Alexander Trent died on May 17, 1841. In a signed affidavit, John S. Wells, aged 68 years, swears that he is well aquainted with Alexander Trent and Jane Trent formerly Jane Burton and that they were married in 1792 in Grayson Co, VA. He states that he was not present at the wedding but saw him going to the wedding and saw him the next day with Jane his wife. Mr. Wells also states that they were living as man and wife from then on. (also dated May 17, 1843.) In a signed affidavit, Charity Trent, aged 73 years, states that she was well aquainted with Alex Trent and his wife Jane Trent formerly Jane Burton and that they were married together AT THE SAME TIME in 1792 in Grayson Co, VA. by Vincent Jones a baptist preacher. She also states that Jane Trent has not remarried since the decease of Alex Trent. In a signed affidavit dated the same day, Joseph Trent states that Jane Trent has not remarried. In a letter dated Sept. 11, 1843, J. K. McNally, Esq. questions why no record exsits of their marriage because he did not believe that the publication of banns occurred after 1790. In another affidavit dated Sept. 28, 1843, Jane Trent gave the same information as before with a few more details. She states that she can not remember the month and day of her marriage. Charity Trent gave the same information except to state that they were married by publishing the banns at Fox Creek Church in Grayson Co, VA. and were married by Vincent Jones John Wells gave the same information but added that Alexander Trent stopped by Wells' father's house on his way to get married and that they were married by publication which was a common way to get married in that country at that time. Joseph Trent gave the same information. There was one other interesting bit of information in the file that may help someone. Miss Wilma Trent of Atlanta, Nebraska wrote a letter to the "Department of Pension Officials" in Washington DC. on Dec. 4, 1911 requesting Alexander Trent's pension file. She states that he was her great-great grandfather.

In an affidavit dated June 12, 1834, Alexander Trent states that he was born in Chesterfield County on March 29, 1759. He states that he was living in Bedford County, VA. when he entered the service of the United States as a drafted soldier under Capt. Terrill in the year 1778 or 1779. He states that since the Revolutionary War he has lived in Virginia and Tennessee and has lived in Hawkins County for the past 28 years. In a signed affidavit, Enoch Ausbern and Samuel Trent stated that they were well aquainted with Alexander Trent because they resided in his neighborhood. They believed him to be in the Rev. War. I put my fingers in motion before my brain was engaged. The following was received last evening from a well versed Hawkins County Walker researcher. "James H. Walker (b. 1810, d. 1880), son of Joshua Walker and Amy Williams, did live in Greene Co., TN in 1850 before moving on to New Market, Jefferson Co., TN by 1860. It's possible that there were other Walkers in Greene Co., TN related to us, but I am not aware of any at present. DNA testing has shown that the John Walker family who lived on Meadow Creek in Greene Co., TN is not related to us or to the Wigton Walkers (as was believed for a number of years). Regards, Randy" Sorry for any confusion. Bob Walker

It took me 10 years but I finally found paper hard cold evidence that Mary Ann Epperson who married Hudson Sandidge was indeed the daughter of Stephen and Elizabeth Wolfe Epperson. A lot of people argued she wasn't since she moved to Bradley County but I knew she was and finally found 1 document that specified her name as being Elizabeth's daughter so we'll find Joseph's father eventually.

Shadrick M. Epperson, born in 1800 in Wilkes Co, NC has been thought to be the son of Thomas and Mary Cross Epperson. Thomas and Mary died in Grainger County, TN. Thomas' father is thought to be Francis Epperson. Shadrick M. Epperson married Jane W. Orick, sister of my great great grandfather and they lived in Grainger County, TN. Jane W. Orick and James Madison Orick's sister, Rebecca Orick, married William Mills and did have a daughter named Elizabeth but I don't have marriage info on that Elizabeth Mills but they also had a daughter, Mary Elizabeth that married a John Wilson Depew. The name Shadrick or Shadrack followed down his and Jane W. Orick's line several generations and Shadrick M. went by the nickname "Shade". Shadrick M. and Jane W. Orick Epperson's children were: Thomas, born 1821 John, 1824 Wiley B., 1826 Mary, 1828 Lydia, 1830 William, 1832 Melvina, 1834 Martha Jane, Sept 5, 1835 James, 1837 Mary Nancy Ann, Oct 14, 1838 Benjamin, 1843 (Jane's father's name) Elizabeth, 1848 A lot of men with the name Thompson ended up on census records as Thomas. That happened in my Langford line so I wonder if other researchers are not wrong about Shadrick M. belonging to Thomas and Mary Cross and actually belonged to Thompson Epperson since he and Robert were in Wilkes County and Thompson was the right age to have been Shadrick's father. Thompson Epperson married Mary Israel and he ended up in Franklin Co, Georgia. I only have seven children listed for them and there's a span of 6 years between the last 2, Thompson Jr. in 1797 and Charles in 1803 so Shadrick M. could have very well belonged to them.

Nancy was born about 1807 so Lee was born sometime around that time and that's as far back as he has the Walker line right now.
