I was replying to Beth Fillers' message about "Thomas Anderson and wife, Sarah Collins' son, Perry Anderson . . ." and didn't even think about there being more than one Thomas Anderson. I had just seen that name on older census and wondered if there might be a connection to my William Anderson. Thank you for asking. Carol

I have been trying to find the parents of William Anderson, b. 1797, d. 1854-1860 in Hawkins Co., TN. My Jones line was out of VA and ties back to PA. My first husband was from the line of Daniel and lived in Hawkins County near New Canton. My line was in Washington and Scott County, Virginia. Wells Jones' line ties back to John Gabriel Jones, born 1752 and Martha Wells and that line ties back into England. Daniel Jones' line out of NC ties back to PA and into England but I can find no relation between the two lines.

Luther Anderson married Laura Lucinda Sandidge -Laura's mother was an Epperson. Luther and Laura's son, Clyde William married a Sensabaugh whose brother married a woman that ties back to the Eppersons thru the Haynes line. Garnett W. Anderson, born in Hawkins Co to Perry Anderson and wife Elizabeth Hensley, married Mary Elsie Haynes. Mary's father was David Gilmer Haynes-grandson of Elvira Epperson. There's several ties of Andersons to Epperson related families. I just could not find a direct line tie to Epperson Anderson. Beth

He and Delany Burk murdered Asa Mathis in 1844. They failed to show for the trial in 1848, but were convicted and sentenced to two years in the state pen. It appears that they skipped out of the county or state. Then, the State of Tennessee went after those who posted bond for the two of them--Allen Collins, Solomon Collins, Matilda Gibson, Charles J. McKinny, John Netherland (attorney?), Alexander Walling and A. A?. Kyle. There is no record as to whether Jones and Burk were ever caught.

Epperson Anderson and Anderson Epperson were no relation at all as far as I can determine. Anderson Epperson was the son of Isaiah (Asa) Epperson and wife Leah Barron. Isaiah was the son of Charles Epperson and wife Sarah Love Lamb. Charles was a brother to William whom I descend through and lived in Hawkins County for awhile but moved on to KY and then to Illinois while William stayed in Hawkins County. I was raised in Hawkins County and lived there all my life until 2 years ago when I moved into Sullivan County. Your info on Epperson Anderson is correct. There are some Robinettes who are related to the Epperson but not Polly's line that I can tell and I can find no relation to the Eppersons of either his mother or his father. Normally a surname used as a first name ties back to a grandmother or as in Wells Jones' case all the way back like 3 generations. I'm a descendant of Wells and Jane Langford Jones too. Would you happen to b! e out of that line of Jones? Beth

He was living in Hancock County in 1860 still married to Polly/Mary. There was a J.W. Robinette who lived next door in 1860. We know that Arthur Manis was married in Hawkins County, TN, so it is curious that the two were living next to each other in 1850. Arthur Manis and his apparent mother next door, Betsy M. C. Manis, were living next to some Robinettes in 1840 Scott County, VA. The only Anderson enumerated in that census was Isaac C. Anderson who had a son about the same age as Epperson. The only Eppersons enumerated in that census were Hopson and Stephen Epperson. Even though these families were separated by pages in the census, you don't know if they lived next to each other or not because you don't know what route the enumerator took. There are a lot of example which show that when someone has a first or middle name that is also a well know last name, the mother or grandmother often had that name as a maiden name. It is very likely that Analiza Berry was the daughter of Nancy Berry living nearby. Traditionally, Epperson Anderson married Mary Robinette on December 31, 1845? Anderson Epperson mentioned in the "History of Wapello County, Iowa" as born in Eastern Tennessee in 1814 and died in Pulaski County, KY in 1881 (biography of son F.M. Anderson). The record also indicates that Anderson Epperson was living in Pulaski County as early as 1840. But, there isn't any good clue as to whether Anderson Epperson and Epperson Anderson were related.

I don't think he's related to the Eppersons at all. He was born Nov 25, 1822 in Hawkins County TN. His father was an Anderson and the mother was not related to the Eppersons so I figured they must have named him after one of the Epperson men who lived near them.
