    1. still looking for Indianna ??
    2. Debbie Woolf
    3. I am still looking for a female named INdianna ? born abt 1812-14 TN md. abt 1831-2 Lesley (Leslie, Lesly) MYERS/MOYERS. They lived on Gap Creek, Bulls Gap on the Hawkins/Greene Co. line. I have not been successful finding a marraige for them, nor finding anything to help with her name. I thought for sure his pension would name her, then I thought for sure his son's would. Nothing on her last name has turned up in the usual sources. Indianna had 12 children with Lesley before her untimely death. She died in bef. 1860. In fact, her spouse remarried by 1857, just months after her death. There were small children in the hh to take care of. Lesley himself died after 1870 (From memory 1871) in Meigs co. TN. I have tried to find a guardianship record for the youngest children (from his 2nd wife Mary Gregory) to no avail. There was one child from Lesley's marraige to Indianna who may have been included on such a record (If it exists). The MYERS moved to Meigs Co./Rhea Co. by 1830. I have a gut feeling they inherited some land from the estate of David ROSS who left inheritance to Jacob MOYERS the spouse of his deceased daughter Eliza and her heirs. No mention of those "Heirs". I know that a John MOYERS had land in Roane Co. records shortly after David ROSS left the land (possible an inheritance) and then Christopher MOYERS b 1790 Va md. Lydia WEST and Lesley moved there from Greene/Hawkins Co. I can not find Christ. and Lydia after 1850 nor can I find a "resting place" or death date. Christ. could have left a revealing will but I can't find it. I can not find Indianna's burial or death either. Lesley is buried at French Cem., which was associated with a Methodist Church nearby at one time. Since he wit. a land deed from a DOUGHTERY to the Church I assume he was a member. I'm grasping at straws here, but the first son of Lesley and Indianna was named William R. "R" is a name passed down among the family, Riley used in the next generation. Whether it was Wm's middle name or not I can not find out. His pension, military, ect. does not list what R stood for. There are "Riggs" and "Reynolds" living nearby the family earlier and later. Berry REYNOLDS was a wit. for the widow Mary's pension application. He stated he knew Lesley all his life. BELL is another straw I grasped and could not prove out. Bell is a middle name among the females of the family. Frances BELL md. Jacob L. MYRES in WA CO. TN records about the right time period to be Lesley. However FRANCES is too much of a reach to be Indianna, but I'm not ruling it out yet either. I can not LOCATE THE COUPLE anywhere after that marriage in the 1830's. I would love to find them and rule them out if it's not a lead. One researcher assumed this was her Jacob L. who lived over the county line in VA, but she said she could not trace him either. Her family moved out of state, from memory to Indianna or Ohio or midwest region. I know this is a lengthy query but I'm trying to show that I have done some work and still stuck. Census work, deed, wills, guardianship, military records and pension, marraige records, all have been looked at (although not found in alot of cases). I could have missed something and hope someone else can help find it or somewhere someone has a lead, a female named Indianna that might fit. A family bible with a possible match, or a way of tracking down that Jacob L. and Frances. Possible another marraige source than I have used for my couple, ie. Lesley and Indianna. Access to the state library might find something new. I'm really desperate and have not been able to pursue Indianna's line for about 13 years. HELP if you can, please. I believe that Lesley could have a will or a deed, or guardianship listed somewhere, possible mis-spelled, mispellings I have seen include MAYERS, MEYERS, MEYARS, MIERS, MYRES, MOYERS. He was spelling it MYERS on his military records. If you can find a misspelling, it's probably been "used" on a record. IT soundexes differently if you drop the "S" off, so M-620 and M-600 are possiblities (by the way, anyone researching a name with an S on the end that can drop off, you need to drop it and soundex your name again, I have found MANY familes doing that). 1. Wilson Vaughan of Hawkins Co TN
    2. If you know anything about any of these families mentioned, please contact me. And where is Duck Creek? This is a timeline for our Vaughan/n family and what we know to date about our Hawkins Co Tennessee family. Wilson Vaughan and Nancy Bowlin Vaughan were the parents of Stokely, Wylie, Wesley, Mary and Clinton Vaughan. Based on research, as shown below, we believe Wilson VAUGHAN died between 1837 and 1840. We believe Levi Bowlin was the Father of Nancy Bowlin. Nancy is shown in Hawkins Co TN 1840 census, living close to Levi and brother James, with her children. 1829 Wilson Vaughan Dec 1829 bought land from Samuel Nicholson. Deed registered May 23, 1835. Wilson Vaughan is born abt 1805. Dec 26, 1829 Land Title from Samuel Nicholson, county of Knox in TN to Wilson Vaughan, county of Hawkins TN, assigns a parcel of land on Duck Creek, including the improvement which the said Vaughan now lives. 1830 Wilson Vaughan found in 1830 Hawkins Co TN census with wife Nancy Bowlin Vaughan, living next to Levi Bowlin. 1833 Sarah Nicholson to Levi Bowlen Reg'd March 4 1833. Samuel may have been deceased in 1833. This property was adjacent to Wilson and Nancy's property. 1835 Levi Bolin to John Bolin. Hawkins Co TN Deed Book 15, pg 179 Reg'd 25 Jan 1835. Wilson is apparently deceased by then. 1842 HAWKINS COUNTY, TENNESSEE--MARRIAGE RECORDS 1789-1866, p. 10: John Bowling married Jincey Vaughn on September 13, 1842. The marriage was performed by Thomas Martin, J. P. She is 75 years of age. She indicates on the census report that she was born in TN and her parents were born in KY. It is probable that Nancy died and is buried in Lawrence Co IN, however, we have yet to find any records of her death and where she might be buried. Below are documents witnessed by William Vaughan, which to me indicates there is a family relationship between William and Wilson. The WPA project is only a index. We do have two grants books with early grants from NC. Then the deed books start with Deed book #1 and continue with numbers. I have never notice years on the books. There are year numbers on the large index books of which there are many for deeds as well as deeds of trust. At one time the old deed books were called Liber's and they used the alphabet. The deeds were later all recorded into the books that are now numbered. There are a few very old grants books where the State of Tennesee granted land. Some people have tried to abstract some of the old deeds from microfilm. If one has not worked with the spelling of the old county names. These books can be misleading. We really do have a very good deed office with records easy to find if you are there. Thank you for your interest in our county.

    3. I believe the early Hawkins deeds books were retranscribed by the county clerk at some point (not sure when). Looking at the actual deeds books in the Hawkins courthouse, they will have a notation at the beginning that says something on the order of "Transcribed from Liber E(or whichever original book it was from), page ___". So yes, it is confusing when looking at references. For instance, a deed I copied from there had the "Transcribed from Liber E" copy at the top, but it is now in Deeds Book 1. Hope that helps. 2. Sidney Wells
    3. I am involved with two DNA testing groups that use two of the major DNA testing firms. I cannot begin to tell you all the benefits that I have personally received in my genealogical research on the two lines involved. My Walker line (proven by DNA to be from John Walker who died in 1818 in Hawkins County, TN) is part of the largest national DNA study done by Family Tree DNA. You can find out the costs and procedures involved (and whether there is already a test being done on your surname) at www.familytreedna.com My Wells line is part of the largest international DNA study being done by Relative Genetics. In that study, my line was really up against a brick wall. We were sure we tied to another Wells line because of proximity, but none of us in either line could prove it. DNA not only proved that connection, but when an old time early New England 17th century "well-documented" line finally was tested on three branches, we were connected and one of those branches was found to be in error. Relative Genetics is at www.relativegenetics.com Right now I am following a clue, but before I spend a lot of time on the trail, I am first checking to see if any DNA testing has been done on that line to possibly exclude it before I spend the hours and weeks researching a line that is not even a connection.
