The Tate's were from Botetourt Co., Virginia though. David Tate, Sr. & his wife had ten sons. David, Jr was married to Comfort Knox. Charges were brought against him by the Commonwealth on supsicion of his being a torey. The Commonwealth ordered him to enlist in the Continental Army for eighteen months without any bounty or other gratuity except his pay as a soldier. The Peck's that lived early in Tarpine Valley were from Boetourt Co. also. They must have moved into the area about the same time, perhaps together, as many families did.

They usually married someone who was living within a few houses. So, you can usually figure out who someone married in that period by comparing the 1860 and 1870 census records.

I have a complicated research problem that I've been working on. My gggggrandmother was married in Hawkins Co and I don't know her surname. As you probably know, the records were destroyed during the Civil War. Anyway, her name was Elizabeth and she married a man named Dawson Seals about 1820-1821. Nobody's ever come up with her surname, though a lot of researchers have made guesses. Anyway, her first son was named Kennedy Bond Seals; hence I've been looking for Kennedys and Bonds who might have a daughter matching her description. If you have an idea, I'm open to suggestions. Thanks again--ERIC
