    1. Re: [TNHAWKIN] families of hawkins tennesse volume 1 & 2
    2. If you can, could you please check the volume 1 or 2 for the name of Pine (or Pyne) and Shanks, as well as George Morris who married Mary Pine in 1860. John Pine and Bridget Pine were found in the 1860 census with their children Mary, John, and James, they came from Ireland but not sure when, I also found George Morris listed in the Hawkins County 1860 census. John Pine, the son, married Nancy Shanks and it appears they stayed in the Hawkins county for sometime and he may have died around 1883, they had 2 sons John and James Pine Thank you so much for all your help to us searching for our family ancestors. 3. There are no Pine/Pyne entries in Vol. 2. The only Morris listed is Dorothy Lisa Justice Morris. There are many Shanks entries. Do you have a given name for your Shanks? Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/XeB.2ACE/3428 Message Board Post: I am having a problem identifying which family James F. Oxendine came from. We know that his mother was a Blair and we know that he used the name Oxendine. What we don't know is if he was born out of wedlock to one of the Blair girls or if she married an Oxendine. What we were told was that his mother was a Blair and his father was an Oxendine and that his father was real mean to him so he ran away over the mountain and ended up in Union County, Tennessee. he was living in a barn at a Mr. Snodderly's. Mr Snodderly found him and raised him as if he was his own. None of his children (the 2 that are left remember anything other than that. James F. was married twice. The second wife was Mary Elizabeth Hensley of Union County. James F. is buried in Ousley Cemetery in Maynardville (Union County) Tennessee. His children by his 1st wife was: Jesse Jackson, William Rice, and Julia Mae. His children by his second marriage: Lucy, Nora, Arlena, Juanita, Victoria (Vic), Sam, Roscoe, Harvey, and John. I would appreciate any information or any suggestions on where I should look next.

In fact, a mis spelling of the name occurred in Fannin Co, TX somewhere around 1902 when John Shorb (son of the John Shorb I am trying to find in TN) died and his 2 sons were sent to live with others. One was adopted and the other had his name spelled SHARB and continues to this day. I am the grand daughter of the man who had his name mis spelled! In the family history, the name was said to be Von de Borth Shorb but I have not verified that. I suspect that the Shorb in TN did, in fact, shorten the name. It gets "butchered" again in the 1860 census for Dade Co. GA; it is spelled Sherb; but correct in the 1880 census for Boone Co. AR. I do appreciate your information and will check this out as heaven only knows how some of the census takers come up with spellings! Again, thanks for your time and I will certainly check.
