Edward Cobb did not have a Joseph or Joel in 1850 or 1860. The 1870 census for Joel Cobb and Susan Pilant shows that he was born about 1841 or 1842, which matches up very well with the 1850 and 1860 census data for Wiley Cobb. The children of Wiley Cobb are often mixed up with the children of his Cobb brothers because of the similar names. David

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/XeB.2ACE/3157.1.1.1 Message Board Post: David, I have in my files that Joel Cobb b 1834 is the son of Edward "Ned" Cobb and Martha "Patsy" Johnson. Wiley's son Joseph was born abt. 1842. Edward and Martha had 11 children. Eliza, Joel, Elizabeth, Jessie Gale, Sarah, Mary, Narcissa, Serena "Rene", William, Thomas J. and Hannah. Joel b 1834 m Susan Pylant b. 1841, and married on May 16, 1861. They had 9 Children: Andrew, Eliza, William Gaines, Martha, Mary, Edd, Rene, Nannie and Maggie. I'm sure some of these were nicknames. Louise Gillenwater b. March 20, 1857 whose father was James Gillenwater and mother was Emily Price Gillenwater and they had 8 children. Louise married Andrew Cobb b. March 27, 1862. After Louise died in 1885 Andrew then married Irma Anderson. When Andrew died in 1889, Irma married William Gaines Cobb his brother in 1890. The 2 children from Andrew and Louise went to live with either Joel Cobb, thier Grandfather or Emily Price Gillenwater, their Grandmother. As a result Joel ended up married to Emily and raised Andrew and Louise's 2 children, Emma Susan Nancy Jane Cobb and James Joel Cobb.

Your Joel Cobb, the father of Andrew, was the son of Wiley Cobb and Sarah Brooks, and grandson of Joel Cobb and Sarah Winstead. I know from court documents that your Joel Cobb was actually named Joseph and Joel was his nickname. Do you know anything about the parents of Andrew Cobb's wife, Louisa Ann Gillenwaters? Who were the parents of Erma Anderson?

He was supposedly born in Hawkins County, Tennessee 1811-1816. Thanks. Know Betty Baldwin will want you to look up something for her. 3. This is just a quick question since the Gillenwater name really caught my eye. We have a Abby or Abigail Gillenwater that married Smith Gibson in the mid to latter part of the 1800's. We do not know anything whatsoever about her family, and since Smith Gibson was married 4 times sorting out the children has also been a major undertaking in the family as you might imagine. We are not sure where she was born, we think it was in Tn but since that last name is very uncommon I thought it wouldnt hurt to ask. Thank you for your time.
