That is an interesting line which frequently intersects with Lawson cousins. Several related Herrons, like Maggie Lawson and Sarah Manis Lawson, had many children out of wedlock, which raises some interesting questions about them. As far as I can tell, there is no documentation that indicates the family name of either Hennis' wife or Banks' wife. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. If I had waited to get your reply with the list of Mary & Malinda's children I wouldn't have wasted your time with the question about Nettie. I will add her to my list and get all the children attributed to the correct mother. I am still confounded about Banks father. How long has North Carolina had its current boundaries? I received some impressive info from CW & DR Loeslin. Do we have a consensus...Banks' father was Clement? I had selected Burrell because of his wife being Ellender Banks. Were our branch of Lawsons situated in the part of Hawkins County that became Hancock? In my notes I find Thursia's supposed last name as Parvin Parvine Provine Purvin Purviane Purviance. There is no record of any other name. We knew her father was Curren, but did not know who the mother was until we found her death certificate. Her death certificate said that Mary Lawson was her mother. Sister Valeria's death certificate names Mary as Mary Manis. It does appear that there may have been a child born around 1880 to Curren and Mary who is missing in 1900. I don't know who that would be. Thomas was born in 1877 and Nettie in 1882. I have had my mt-DNA tested and it matches up with many from the tri-state area who have a female line descended from the Fields family. It is also interesting that one of these matches has the Gilbert family in their female line. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. We also know that she was married to Jacob Mullens from 1879 to 1883, although he state that there were no children by the marriage. In the 1900 Hawkins County, TN census, Jesse is listed a being born in Dec 1881 (age 18), in the 1910 Hawkins County, TN census he is listed as age 27, in the 1920 Greenville County, SC census he is listed as 35, and in the 1930 Hancock County, TN census he is listed as 54 with age of first marriage as 42. In SC he was living next to Allen and Lyda Winstead. She was born 1876/1877. They were also living next to a Marshall West from Tennessee in SC. Allen Winstead was the first cousins once removed of the children of Curren Lawson. Age discrepencies are common in census records when there is a significant difference in age between parties. The old tend to get younger or the young tend! to get older over time. There is no evidence of a marriage between Allen Winstead and a Lyda/Lida. William Jesse Lawson was born in 1879 or 1880, NOT in 1881. I clearly remember this. Bessie was born in 1899 and Jesse was 20 or 21 years older than she. I remember this because my maternal grandmother was born in 1900. As a child I remember telling Mom "no wonder Grandma Lawson looks so much older than Grandma Trent...she was born in another century." Mom explained it was just a difference of a year...not a century. This was reinforced when I married my first husband who was 10 years older than I. Mom pointed out that her mother's second husband (Hassie Elizabeth Long Gibson Trent; 1. Jesse Gibson; 2. C.A. Trent) was 19 years older and Bess' husband was nearly 21 years older. My great grandmother, Nettie, was born within 6 months of Jesse. Her parents are listed as Mary Manis and Curren Lawson on her death certificate. It should say Malinda if she was her mother. I haven't seen Jesse's death certificate. Do you have it? Curren could have had two cooking at the same time or Jesse could have been a stepchild. Thomas Lawson, Curren's son in 1880, stated in an affidavit that several of Malinda's children were not Curren's children. If we could figure out who Jesse Sr was we could answer a lot of questions. Several years ago, my mother (also deceased), had some contact via regular mail with somebody in Hawkins County (I thought it might have been you). This person told Mom that Jesse was rumored to be a Cobb. I have never seen Jesse's signature so I was not aware he signed "Jr." I show Jesse to be born in 1881 which would have been during her marriage to Mullens, about whom I know nothing. I don't recall his name ever being mentioned. I show a sister, Lida, who married a Winstead (or Winston)and that is from my mother's handwritten notes. I also show a Maggie Lawson, but can't tell if that is a sister or the second wife of Jesse's brother, Duff. Do you know any thing about William Lawrence (or Laurence) who came from Ireland to Chicago to Hawkins County? I assume only family would have brought somebody to such an isolated spot. He fought in the Civil War and is buried in Lee Valley near Pearsons (I don't know where "Pearsons" is, I'm just copying notes.) William Lawrence married Mary Francis Amyx and their daughter, Kitty, married my dad's maternal grandfather, Hugh Williams. The body of deed records from Edgecombe County show that the Town Creek Cobbs were descendents of James Cobb of Wayne Count, NC, and that the Edward Cobb descendents lived in a different part of Edgecombe County. I personally believe that he Edward Cobb connections is wrong. In fact, his will shows that it is wrong. He didn't have a son named Joel/Joseph.
