Mother's research has been lost so I have no source for any information. Some of the dates I picked up from records.) James G. (Sop) Trent (b 1806-1812 Hawkins Co., d after 1880 in Lee Valley, VA?) married to Catherine Jane Templeton (Katy) (b ? Green Co., TN, d before 1880 Lee Valley, TN?). James G. was the son of Alexander Trent (b 1759 Chesterfield Co., VA d 1841 Hawkins Co.)and Jane Burton [possibly Virginia Jane Burton] (b 1765 Grayson Co., VA, d 1843). Alexander was the son of Alexander Trent (b 1726 Henrico Co, VA, d 1803 Patrick Co., VA) and Elizabeth Scott (1730-1780). [some notes between Elizabeth and Alexander the elder say Campbell Co., VA 1772-92 from Chesterfield Co., VA, I don't know to whom they apply or what they mean] Alexander the elder was the son of William Trent (1686-1768) from Chesterfield Co., VA and Ursula Branch (1693-1768) William was the son of Henry (1642-1701, an immigrant (notes are barely illegible, looks like Eurite Co., VA but I can find no such county, it appears he immigrated from some other country to VA [note may say Europe to VA instead of Eurite Co., VA]. Henry may have been married to Elizabeth Sherman. [Notes also have William I and Henry I, which I assume was to separate them from the other Wm.s & Henry's or they indicate the end of the line.] I have no information on James G. Trents siblings. I show Mary Catherine Trent as the daughter of James G. and Catherine Jane Templeton Trent. Mary Catherine had an illegitimate daughter by James Hascue Brooks Sr., her name was Sarah Elizabeth Trent. Sarah married John Douglas Gibson. Mary Catherine Trent later married William D. Jarvis b 1856. I am praying the Jarvis family may have some information. My first cousin, once removed, Margaret Long Mabery has done a great deal of research but I do not have that as yet. My mother's research has been lost. John Harvey Long married to Caldonia Jones (b 1872) was the son of Henry Long (b 1841 possibly in Owen Co., IN) and Margaret Fortner (b 1851 in VA). Henry Long was the son of Jefferson Long (1814-1906 born & died in NC) and Elizabeth Woodie (1815-1864 born & died in NC). Jefferson Long was the son of John Long Jr. (1783-1876 born and died in NC) and Susannah Stamper (1790-1871). John Long Jr. was the son of John Long Sr. (1755-1863) and Susannah Vannoy. I have nothing on any siblings and I am sure there were plenty. I will post again when I get any more info. All my information is verbal from mom talking to relatives. Good luck. First of all, those who have looked at James Trent haven't been able to find an Osborne connection The pension file of Alexander Trent offers conflicting information. Jane Trent was never able to get a windows pension apparently because of some doubt about her marriage. According to an affidavit, Jane and Charity Trent were married in the same ceremony either before Jan 1792, in Jan 1792 or in Jan 1794 in Grayson County, VA. James Trent's birthday is usually given as 1792. Grayson County was formed in 1793 from Wythe County. So, it does raise some questions about the actual marriage date, which may serve to explain Samuel "Burton" Trent and James "Burton" Trent who were both apparently born before 1794. Jane's maiden name was given as Burton but Charity's last name was not given. If you have looked at a lot of pension files, you know that most individual who write affidavits are related in some way to the! party seeking the pension. Enoch Osborne, Samuel Trent and Joseph Trent wrote affidavits for Alexander Trent, which could suggest an Osborne connection to the Trents. Charity was the daughter of James Burton Osborne who was a baby when his father died. His mother married William D. Trent, Sr. and later in life James started going by the name Trent. James Burton Osborne (1795-1866) was the son of William Osborne (1773-1796) and Charity Burton (1773-1820) all three of these people were born in Grayson County, VA. Littleton Brooks, Sr was the son of Thomas and Mary Brooks of Brunswick Co., VA. His grandfather or great-grandfather settled in Bunswick in the early 1700's and one of them obtained a land grant for 270 acres on the Nottoway river 22 Feb 1724. It is difficult to tell which one because both were named John Brooks and the Brunswick County (formed in 1720)court records are sparse. Littletons's siblings include: *An older sister who married Samuel Wilson, Sr. We have been unable to discover her given name. *Leah who married Capt. Robert P. Kyle. *Castleton who married Elizabeth Kincannon. *George *John *Thomas who married Catherine ? *Anthony As I mentioned in the earlier post, Castleton was a noted long hunter who went on a well documented long hunt in 1769-1770 to southern KY and middle TN, ending up at the Spanish Natches on the Mississippi river. On another hunt in 1774, Castleton discovered the Hickory Cove northeast of present day Rogersville, TN. He liked it so well that he claimed 500 acres, cleared land, built a cabin, and raised a crop of corn. The area was a howling wilderness owned by the Cherokee Nation at that time. Evidently, he returned home and told his siblings, friends, and neighbors about the free land that could be had across the mountains because many followed him back to Hickory Cove and settled there or in the surrounding area. Of his siblings that migrated to the future counties of Hawkins, Sullivan, and Hancock, we can prove; Samuel Wilson and his wife, Capt. Robert P. Kyle and Leah, Littleton, George, Thomas, and possibly John. Castleton, Littleton, George, and Thomas served in the Revolutionary War, as did Capt. Kyle and Samuel Wilson. Castleton was appointed Constable by the Washington Co., VA court on 29 April 1777 to serve from Patterson's Mill downstream on the Holston river as far as there were settlers. At the end of May or early June of that year he was killed by Indians while deer hunting in Hickory Cove. Castleton and his wife, Elizabeth Kincannon, had only one child, a daughter named Mary who was born 20 Nov 1776 in the cabin in Hickory Cove. Mary grew up and married William Brice, an Irish immigrant, and returned to Hickory Cove to live out her life on the land of her father. Littleton married Elizabeth Wallen about 1790 and they settled on the Clinch river in what is now Hancock Co., TN. Their children are: Elizabeth b. 23 Mar 1791 Thomas b. 4 Sep 1793 Penelope b. 28 Dec 1795 Joseph b. 5 Apr 1797 Littleton, Jr b. 5 Mar 1803 Patsy b. 13 Feb 1804 James b. 12 Feb 1807 Millicent b. 25 Oct 1810 Mary "Polly" b. 17 Dec 1813 Hope this helps.
