    1. [TNHAWKIN] Burrell and Clem Lawson (was Re: LOOSE RECORDS FROM HAWKINS CO. COURTHOUSE - JOHNSON, LAWSON)

Let's look at this - could we have it both ways ? David and I batted this around before. It is definitely speculation but this needs to be reviewed and tested. Burrell and Clement Lawson both show up from 1793 to 1813 but never together. It would seem to support the idea that could be the same person. Being born ca. 1772, Clem should show up in the lists at about 20 years old or 1792 - Burrell shows up in the 1793 tax list. Clem doesn't show up until later in 1801 (if he is identified as Samuel as I originaly speculated) or 1802 at about 30 years old - not totally unusual if he was younger and looking after his parents but why does he not show up earlier ? 1800 Stokes Co., NC census Samuel Lawson and Burrel Lawson appear at the same time. A John and Fatmon (Patmon) Losson are also listed. Why the different spellings ? Samuel appears only in 1800 census and 1801 tax list - seems to disappear (I think this could have been Clem). 1805 and 1806 both are missing from the records. 1810 here is the first potential overlap - Clem and John appear in Hawkins Co., TN tax lists but they could have been on the move but Burrell's name appears later in 1813 in NC. 1813 Burrell and John both show up in Stokes Co. tax list 1814 John and Clement appear together in Samuel Bunch's Regiment of TN Militia. 1830 census records Clem shows up in Henry Co., IN while Burrell is missing or has not been located yet. 1840 Clem is found in Madison Co., IN but Burrell is in Hawkins Co., TN alone - this is the only time they ever appear at the same time. Burrell is alone - no wife, no children, no nephews, nieces or grandchildren near a Martin and John Lawson. If they are the same person, Clem / Burrell could have been recorded in both places like Banks and Hennis in were in 1830 (IN and TN) if he went back briefly to Hawkins Co to tie up loose ends and maybe bring family back to IN by 1850. Remember that Lydia (Lawson) Manis was in Hancock Co. and Alem and Susan (Manis) Lawson's and Lydia, Richard Lawson (& Franky) plus Preston Robinson and others from Hawkins Co. went to Madison Co., IN by the 1850 census while one of the George Washington Lawsons went from IN back to Hawkins Co., TN. This also could account for why Clem's wife is so young in the 1830 (it could be a daughter though) - Clem's wife, a daughter and Paschal may still be living and listed with son Edmund Lawson in 1830. Clem's! wife could be the older female and living with Edmund and not with Clem yet in IN. Edmund died in 1832. Then later Clem goes back to TN to fetch family and kin then returns by 1850 census time. There seems to be a lot of appearances & disappearances 1840 - 1860 in the Manis and Lawsons. There is a possibility of course that Clem could have been married 2 or 3 times, say a Banks, a Hamblin/Hamblen and a Hall maybe in that order ? In argument of Burrell and Clem being different people, I wonder if the families with Jonas/Jonah, Lewis, Burrell and Morman are a clue to Burrell's line if separate from the others. And who is that Aaron Lawson near Ambrose Coomer ? The Coomer and Lawsons seem to be possible kin in KY and Stokes Co., NC. One of John Monk's sons married a Comer and so did our William Howe who is tied to our Roberts and others in OH who were all from TN. The Coomer (William and Richard) family lived near the Lawsons in Stokes Co., NC before moving out west where Aaron Lawson, Jonas Lawson and Ambrose Coomer appear. The Tilly and Rogers families also have similar first names and could be kin. The John "Black Eye" Lawson clan seem to be in the central northern district of PETERS CREEK (Capt. Cloud / Capt. Gains / Peters Creek District) area while Jonas, Moses, Burrell, Sherwood/Sherod appear in the adjoining north eastern area SNOW CREEK area (Capt. Hickman's / Capt. Beasley's / Capt. Charles McAnally's / Capt. Dearing's / Capt. Ward's / Snow Creek / Stone Chimney Districts). Different districts consistently but adjoining. Was Burrell (if he was not Clem) a son of Morman and say a Shelton along with David and maybe Ambrose (that Coomer name again) ? (Charles, Thomas and Andrew Mooreman/Merriman were early in this area). A side note - Banks, Hennis, Franky, Enoch and Thursy Lawson are named with Andrew and Nancy Stapleton in a court record in Hawkins Co., TN and in 1853 Pulaski Co., KY Malinda / Melinda Lawson marries William Stapleton. In 1852 Nancy (Fry/Frye - see connection in Stokes Co., NC to other Lawson Fry(e) marriages) Lawson dies - a year later James (as transcribed but is his name Jonas James / James Jonas or is this a misinterpretation of Jonas) remarries to Phebe Morgan. 3. I need some imput from Hawkins and Hancock list members. Most of you are aware of my efforts to form a Sons of the American Revolution Chapter in this area. I live 800 miles round trip away and can not be where I need to be daily to achieve this goal. I am getting NO cooperation from the media and have even offered to pay for space with no reply. I have chartered 5 SAR Chapters and personally sponsored 115 members into SAR, so I trust you understand that I know what my mission is. However, I seem to be getting no place here. I may be some place that I am not wanted, trying to do something that is not wanted. Please, if this is true, tell me, and I will leave. I welcome your comments pro or con. Best wishes, Bob Hughes "Do not go where the path may lead; Go where there is no path and leave a trail"---Emerson Opportunities never come to those who wait...they are captured by those who dare to attack.

On some scribbled notes I have it has Banks Lawson with a son AND a brother named Ambrose. Is there an Ambrose the right age? That would give us Hennis, Banks, Thomas and Ambrose as brothers and sons of Clement? Who was the other one with a son named Clem? (Edmund?) Banks & Hennis had Clems. The notes also say Banks and Thursia were "believed" to have a son named Andrew who was 24, married and gone at the 1850 census. My Mom was excited about the Falling River Lawsons but never got to do the research. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. There are the first names of the Lawson clan(s)! I always figured Sherrod was actually Sherwood. Where is New Sweden? That's a new one for me. I have decided to move from the obvious (Banks Lawson's mother = Ellender Banks). I am going to go with my Mother's notes left at the Library in Rogersville...Clement is Banks' father and John is Clement's father. But which John? It appears the Banks and the Lawsons had a close and lengthy relationship with probably more than one intermarriage. Now if we just knew who his brothers were! At first I thought they recycled first names, now I think they churned them and spread them like butter! Do you suppose Clement's John is Black Eye John? My sister did some looking and didn't think our Lawsons were around Falling River, but she was working on the Banks/Burrell angle. I have found some of my mother's Trents around Falling River. Please note the common discrepancy on his name; he is often mixed up with another Patrick Berry in Stone County: Patrick Cubine Berry. I have quite a bit of info on Esther's life, similar to that in your posting, but I am searching for Esther's burial site. I know that she was living with her widowed daughter-in-law Phoebe Berry (wife of Alexander Berry) in 1865 in Troy, KS, but I don't have any later info. I suspect that she is buried in the Berry family plot in Mt. Olive Cemetery near Troy, but I have not seen a headstone or listing for her. Another possibility is that she returned to Stone County after 1865 (or was taken there upon death) and was buried at Berry Cemetery where Francis Patrick is buried. No headstone shows her there, either. Any info would be appreciated. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. It is possible that William Scism b. c. 1776 is really William Chisum, born 1778 in Hawkins County to Elijah Chisum, a lawyer who moved on in about 1801-3. 3. I'm interested in any and all Kinser/Kinzer/Kincer notes. My John W. Kinser b 1793 VA m 1810 Greene cO, TN, Susannah Messimore/Messimer b 1792/3 VA or PA. Their son married the daughter of Soloman Wampler b 1800 Wythe CO, Va, and wife Mary/Polly Harmon. I don't know how/if these folks relate: Descendants of Nathan Harmon 1 Nathan HARMON . +Rebecca MYERS m: April 28, 1814 Greene CO, TN Notes sent by another researcher: Descendants of William Fraser 1 William FRASER b: 1705 d: 1734 culpeper CO, VA . +Amey NALLE Father: Martin Nalle Mother: Mary Jane Aldin b: 1709 . 2 James FRASER b: 1730 Spotsylvania CO, VA d: 1779 Spotsylvania CO, VA ..... +Elizabeth Betty FOSTER m: 1754 b: 1736 .... 3 [1] James Benj. (Frazor) FRAZIER: ........ +Hannah CARR Have you read the book "THE DUTCH FORK SETTLEMENT of Donegal Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania" by Raymond Martin Bell Washington, Pennsylvania 1984 edition. On page 43 it lists: Catherine Leffler born ca 1755 married John Kinser, Killed by Indians 1782, oath of allegiance 1777, settled 1774, Va certificate 1780 400 acres - lived four miles northwest of Jacob Leffler - widow m 2nd James Frazier Children: Catharine, Adam, Peter, George. In the Bedford County marriages there are marriages for: George, John and Adam also a Henry and Catharine. I know these are common names but it makes you wonder if they are the ones listed as Elizabeth and John's children, there is no John listed but it makes sense they would have named a son John. Catherine and Jacob m. in Bedford county came to Southern Indiana before 1819 - having stopped in Louisville for a time before crossing the river. There were a lot of Frasers in Bedford County records also. A great many people in the book from the Dutch Fork Settlement came to Southern Indiana including the Lefflers. This is our reasoning of the connection to this John Kinzer. and: Joseph FRASER . +Mary Ann SIMPSON m: 1834 Washington CO, TN b: 1809 d: 1855 Page 25 of Simpson book by John Simpson
