So far, we don't have any documentation containing his name except for the Stokes County census and records, and Hawkins County deeds in the late 1820s and early 1830s that refer to his place, and that of Washington and Lacey. What is curious is that Clement is never mentioned in Hawkins County except for a reference in a deed to Alexander Trent Sr which mentions that it was once the property Clement Lawson, and of course the reference to serving in the War of 1812. If we could ever find a reference to Burrell C. Lawson or Clement B. Lawson, I would be convinced that Burrell and Clement were the same individual.     3. Thank you Bob. Not related we know of, but we know of General George Rutledge who married an Armstrong from Hawkins County. Rutledge Tennessee was named after him even though he never lived there. Pretty close to home though. William Rutledge is a possibility of course though Caldwell is new. Our group lived close to the Holsten River, but it ran through several counties. I'll put both on the Rutledge list and see if anyone knows them.     3. No first names to scope in on Bob. Just a family story that they were soldiers during the war.....and that they lived in Virginia before Tennessee was a state. To Hawkins County they must have come very early, perhaps among the first settlers after Indians moved out. We know Rutledge's from South Carolina participated in that war, but I haven't seen much about Patriots in Virginia or Tennessee.
