The favorite year seems to be 1828. He married Elizabeth Gillenwater. I found them in Hawkins County, TN on 1 census and never found them again. I found a C.K. Amyx married to Eliza in 1880 and Cornelius alone in 1850 Parents could have been Samuel and Fanny or Isaac and Mary. I really don't know who his parents were. I have run into 3 sets of Isaacs married to Mary. Their oldest child, daughter Frances, married William Lawrence (or Laurence) I found them on one census in Carter County, TN, with daughter Kittie C Lawrence. She is my great-grandmother. We also have a 'family history' that there is Indian blood from somewhere. I was told that if money was being collected on Indian lands (held in trust by the US Govt), that person must be listed on the Indian rolls. I have never been able to find any of my relatives on any of the rolls. Britton was in Tx in 1900. Any suggestions on how to find this info. Indians had no voting rights whatsoever in the United States. They were not citizens. It was better to be an FPC than an Indian until about 1900. It she was full or half, seems like it would have been (at least) rumored in the community; although I realize at that time this kinship was something that was kept private. Indian ancestry at all. As far as I can tell, most Lawson Indian stories originated in the 1890s when the Guion-Miller role was being constructed and money was being offered to those whose "lands" were appropriated by Whites. As far as I can tell, the DNA data confirm there was no Indian ancestry. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: drdjones Surnames: Lawson, Manis, Fields Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.tennessee.counties.hawkins/3463.30.2.1.1.2.2.2.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am going through my Peter Lawson records and will reply to that message soon. But, the Thomas Lawson who married widow 1840 Susan Stevens--apparent widow of Stephen Stevens--appears to be the father of Wallen and Stokely Lawson. He was from 1830 Lee County, and was living next to Wallen and Stokely in 1840 Hawkins County. He was old enough to be their father--or possibly an uncle. I don't know who Thomas' first wife was, but he was married in 1840 to someone else. Some have named his first wife as Nancy Wallen--I don't know if that is true or not. He is often said to be the son of David Lawson of Lee County. Susan Stevens was the mother of Elizabeth Stevens who married Nelson Manis. Nelson's daughter Mary married Curren Lawson by all accounts. Since I am a descendent in the female line, I had my mt-DNA tested and it matches up with a number of ancestors in the tri-state area who have a Fields in their female line. So, given this I suspect that Susan Stevens was originally a Fields or Manis. Thomas Lawson bought property nears the Fields and Manis families about 1847 and sold it about 1853. I believe that Susan was the woman who was charged with L&A with Peter Lawson about 1850. There is no marriage record for Thomas and Susan Lawson. However, the marriage records of Hawkins County were burned at the end of the war and were reconstructed from the carbonized fragments by the Clerk of the Court. This account of the burning and reconstruction is contained in a pension file. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. He has a revolutionary war record and states that he was born in Germany. There are ties to Lancaster PA. The Shadrack & John Monk line are said to be germans. Jacob Howe was in Claiborne Co. (near Bryson Gibson and Wilkerson Martin) & Hawkins Co. TN, then Lee Co., VA early 1800s then left for OH by 1840. The Howes have ties to Graf (became Grove) and Klepper / Klipper etc. a family has a name similer to Klepferine in that in german, a female record for Klepfer would be noted as Klepferin. The Winsteads married into these Howes. Martins had a Paschal Martin just younger than our Paschal Lawson. Kleppers are near Banks/Hennis Lawson in 1830 IN. Mary "Polly" Howe (grand daughter of Jacob Howe above b: 1813 abt. @ TN d: 1910.03.15 @ MO, Nodaway Co. Maryville - at 97 years of old age) married 1832 to Andrew Roberts in Hawkins Co., TN sec. by Enoch Lawson. Old Jacob Howe's son William married Margaret Comer. Coomer is a name in Pulaski Co., KY and Stokes Co., NC near the Lawsons and also German Comers in the Pike Co., OH area. Could also be McComber etc. but not enough information. OH, Pike Co. related marriages include: Lawson, Patsy Monk, John Mar 30, 1844 (possible widow of Edmund Lawson of Hawkins Co., TN. John Monk lived w/Paschal Lawson in 1850 and near the others in District 4 area in Hawkins Co. in 1830 and 1836). Monk, Larken Comer, Malinda Apr 4, 1844 (s/o John Monk of Hawkins Co., TN & Pike Co., OH). Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
