Jody Thank you so much for posting this website, I found my ancestor John Pyne, he is my grandmother's uncle. I know that John Pyne (Pine) married Nancy Shanks and is buried in the Shanks family cemetery. May I ask the Shanks family who Henry Pyne married, it looks like he had 2 sons. John Pyne or Pine also had a brother name James Pyne and a sister Mary Pyne or Pine who is my great-grandmother who married George W. Morris. From what I gather James Pyne also stayed in Hawkins County but I cannot find any records for him, he did serve in the civil war but afterwards I cannot find any records of him or who he married, would anyone have this information. I have found Pyne or Pine to be spelled two different ways in some of the records I have researched. Thank you so much. That poses an interesting problem, since there was a Russell Manis who later took the name Russell Lawson in Hawkins County, Tennessee. He was 19 and Anna Manis was 25 in 1850 and Rhoda Manis Lawson was 6, so it is possible this Russell was the father. Statements of the descendents of Russell Lawson, as well as deed records of Hawkins County from the 1850s and 1860s Hawkins County show that Russell Manis/Russell Lawson was really William Russell Lawson, who was the son (apparently stepson) of Peter Lawson, the son of Thomas Lawson Sr. There is a court suit from the 1840s in Hawkins County in which an Anna Manis was prosecuted for lewd behavior. John Manis Sr was on the Grand Jury. John Manis Sr was the grandfather of the children of Anna Manis. Now, another child of Anna Manis, Amanda Lawson, indicated that her father was George Manis. So, it is also possible that the fathers were made up to cover and illegitima! te birth. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Mary Ann Jones was born in Jun 1899, according to the 1900 census when she was with her parents, Prior Tipton and Eliza Jane (Cope) Jones. When her brother Sam died in Apr 1987 she was listed as "one sister, Mary Ann Jones of Rogersville, TN" which would have made here the last one alive of the family. I cannot find a Social Security or a TN Death record for her. Does anyone know what happened to her and when she died. An obituary would be great. She is not listed in the Colbach Price records and I didn't find a Kingsport obituary, making me think she died sometime between 1987-1997. Might she have moved away from Rogersville to a niece or nephew's home? Any help appreciated. She would be 100 next month if she were still alive, which she could be. Any help or hints appreciated. > >
