David, I'm afraid I'm not much help with this Francis Henry.  I've searched the NC census just in case he might have shown earlier with your Cagle direct line or cousins.  The Henrys I'm researching were in VA atleast from the middle 1770's and possibly earlier. I did locate the following and wondered if you knew the maiden name of the Mary Cagle below? Could she also have come over from France? 1800 Census Cabarrus, NC Salisbury District Henry Cagle 02110-11010 Mary Cagle 10000-04001 Also these Hardin TN surnames:  Douglas Winchester, John Polk, George Tucker Jr. Could the following be cousins to your direct Cagle line? 1800 Census Montgomery Co. NC George Cagle  02301-01101 David Cagle  10010-30010 James Long 00110-00301 Elijah Smith Urich Smith Drewry Smith I noticed the above Smiths and there were a considerable number in Cabarrus.
