Both sides arrived in Hardin Co. early after settlement opened. I think that the group from the Gillis Mills area most came from NC and are on the 1820 census, probably from the area that many of the the other settlers came from. Only Burns, Turner & Parker are known to have come up from AL (DeKalb Co. and Lauderdale Co.) On the West side, they came down from Kentucky and up from Alabama (Limestone/Lauderdale) with the noted exception of Wm. C. Hughes, whose whereabouts are not detailed until he arrived in Hardin Co. in the 1830 Census. About all we know of his origins is that he was born in South Carolina to Anna and her husband about 1801. Anna was born in VA, c. 1775.
